While attending Care Net\u2019s annual conference I saw him\u00a0in the hallway and eagerly approached him.\u00a0To my delight he\u00a0was engaged, caring and humble. His passion for healthy families, devotion to his Christian faith and\u00a0zeal\u00a0for life\u00a0were evident.<\/p>\n<p>Recently I had my second interaction with him\u00a0over the phone for this interview. Before our call I was at an inner city health fair working a booth for my pregnancy center. At the fair I met a pregnant young woman who told me she was going to get an abortion or choose adoption. I listened to her story and\u00a0let\u00a0her know I&#8217;d\u00a0connect her\u00a0with an adoption agency. When I told Warren\u00a0about that conversation I\u00a0sensed his genuine concern for this woman.\u00a0When I\u00a0shared that the\u00a0woman didn\u2019t care about her boyfriend\u2019s\u00a0desire keep the baby he challenged me to consider if that was true in light of the fact that she wasn\u2019t obligated to tell him she was pregnant but did so for some reason.<\/p>\n<p>Warren\u00a0empathized with this couple because he knows what it\u2019s like to be in their shoes. While students at Princeton University, Roland Warren and his girlfriend Yvette had an unplanned pregnancy.\u00a0\u00a0Even\u00a0though they were offered an abortion, the two\u00a0decided to parent their child and get married. Yvette finished college, became a doctor\u00a0and their choice for life impacted the course of their lives.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/73148448\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/73148448\">Roland and Yvette Warren&#8217;s Story<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/carenetorg\">Care Net<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Warren is now what he calls \u201cpro-abundant life.\u201d He works to see babies saved and in the last 7 years Care Net centers have recorded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.care-net.org\/abundant-life-blog\/care-net-saves-73000-lives-in-2014\">462,089<\/a> preborn lives saved from abortion. He\u00a0believes that saving lives is just the <strong>beginning<\/strong> of what it means to be pro-life. His\u00a0desire to be \u201cpro-abundant life\u201d is rooted in a scripture from the Bible (John 10:10) in which Jesus says, \u201c<em>The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warren&#8217;s\u00a0commitment to being pro-abundant life has 4 main principles. The first principle is living by what Christians refer to as the gospel or good news. Care Net is faith-based Christian organization. He\u00a0encourages efforts to help fathers and mothers making pregnancy decisions hear the good news of Jesus\u2019s love. Care Net centers don&#8217;t impose their beliefs on those seeking services, but\u00a0they offer a\u00a0source of hope in a time of need for those who desire. \u00a0It\u2019s amazing how many women express gratitude for being in an environment where they can receive prayer and encouragement in their faith.<\/p>\n<p>The second principle of being pro-abundant life is encouraging marriage whenever it\u2019s reasonable for those facing unplanned pregnancies. In an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/roland-c-warren\/fathers-day_b_1597387.html?\">article<\/a> for the Huffington Post, Warren\u00a0shared that\u00a0nearly 15 million\u00a0American children live in\u00a0families\u00a0earning below the poverty line of $22,050 a year for a family of four. A study by the Brookings Institution showed that if more families were composed of married parents these poverty rates could fall by as much as 20%\u00a0 percent. In reference to marriage he\u00a0once <a href=\"https:\/\/www.care-net.org\/churches-blog\/personal-responsibility-%E2%80%93it-has-a-nice-ring-to-it\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMarriage is the best societal \u201cglue\u201d we have to connect fathers to their children \u2013 heart to heart \u2013 and to the mother of their children for the long haul. Its unique and distinctive purpose is to align the interests of fathers and mothers in the best interest of their children. It is designed to make responsibility \u201cpersonal\u201d and lasting.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Encouraging fatherhood is the third principle in being pro-abundant life. Warren\u00a0knows what it&#8217;s like to grow up without a father and he\u00a0wants fathers to feel welcome at Care Net pregnancy centers.\u00a0Pregnancy centers\u00a0provide resources for a\u00a0limited time\u00a0to aid women and children but fathers have a longer lasting impact. Warren\u00a0shared that the\u00a0legalization of abortion has allowed women to become mothers at conception but men to become fathers at birth. Fathers should be encouraged to fight for the lives and well being of their children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XRk6r7SLcaM\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The last principle of being pro-abundant life is overturning <em>Roe v Wade<\/em> in our hearts. Warren\u00a0is committed to working to eliminate the desire for abortion, by reaching out to men and women facing pregnancy decisions with a positive alternative.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an absolute honor to work for a Care Net-affiliated center under the leadership of Roland Warren.
