Planned Parenthood and their allies who drafted the new\u00a0Democratic Party platform<\/a> this election season are\u00a0on a crusade to repeal the Hyde Amendment. Thanks to Hyde, a rider which has passed every year since 1976 with bipartisan support, at least one million lives<\/a> have been saved because taxpayer dollars are prevented from paying for abortions, except in limited cases.<\/p>\n

Secular Pro-Life, which will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the amendment in September with #HelloHyde<\/a>, puts a face to those lives Hyde has saved.<\/p>\n

Not only would those lives not be here if not for the Hyde Amendment, more abortions would occur if Hyde were repealed \u2014\u00a0at least\u00a033,000<\/em> more annually, as estimated by Planned Parenthood’s former research arm, the Guttmacher Institute.<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0September 2013<\/a> analysis, Guttmacher attempted to downplay the effects of repealing the Hyde Amendment:<\/p>\n

\n

Accordingly, lifting the Medicaid restrictions on abortion coverage would translate into an estimated 5% rise in the total number of abortions in the group of states in which funding is currently restricted. The national impact of repealing the Hyde amendment would be even smaller: The number of abortions among Medicaid-eligible women nationwide would be expected to increase by approximately 33,000 if the Hyde amendment were to be repealed\u2014or only a 2.5% increase in the number of abortions performed nationwide.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“Only” 2.5%, Guttmacher\u00a0writes. When you consider that the number of abortions committed\u00a0nationwide hovers around a million per year, that 2.5%, however, does\u00a0not\u00a0seem quite so small. These 33,000 abortions are real human beings whose lives will be ended.<\/p>\n

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s leading abortion chain, committing\u00a0a third of all abortions \u2014\u00a0323,999 in\u00a02014-15 alone<\/a> \u2014\u00a0annually. Planned Parenthood and its allies have touted their facilities as\u00a0health care locations\u00a0for low-income women. If\u00a0Hyde were repealed, Planned Parenthood would certainly see more low-income women for abortions, decreasing the numbers of their future generations.<\/p>\n

(One tragic\u00a0irony is that while aborting the future generations of those with low income, the very politically involved<\/a>\u00a0Planned Parenthood claims to be a champion for low-income and disenfranchised voters.)<\/p>\n

Planned Parenthood has proven itself<\/a> time and time again\u00a0to be more interested in\u00a0profit than in women. Planned Parenthood’s\u00a0own figures show that they take in over\u00a0$500 million annually from taxpayers; yet taxpayer dollars increased, the abortion chain\u00a0provided fewer<\/a>\u00a0legitimate health care services, which were\u00a0already on a steady decline<\/a>\u00a0in their facilities.<\/p>\n

If this\u00a0trend continues, Planned Parenthood’s tax dollars will continue to increase (along with abortions) while their actual health care services will continue to decrease.<\/p>\n
