{"id":98325,"date":"2016-07-28T15:43:56","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T19:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=98325"},"modified":"2016-08-31T14:04:58","modified_gmt":"2016-08-31T18:04:58","slug":"cecile-richards-says-hillary-clinton-will-stand-up-for-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cecile-richards-says-hillary-clinton-will-stand-up-for-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"Cecile Richards says Hillary Clinton will &#8220;stand up for abortion&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>On Tuesday,\u00a0Planned Parenthood boss Cecile Richards <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/pundits-blog\/presidential-campaign\/289360-full-speech-cecile-richards-planned-parenthood\">addressed the Democrat National Convention<\/a>, and it was everything you\u2019d expect: hiding the violence of abortion in flowery rhetoric about \u201cwomen\u2019s care,\u201d lavishing praise upon Hillary Clinton, and fear-mongering about the consequences of defunding her organization.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IaI88zqYLgA\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Richards:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Planned Parenthood was founded 100 years ago, giving women the care they need to live their lives and chase their dreams \u2013 no limits, no ceilings.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Some reactions have hailed Richards for her supposed \u201ccandor\u201d of being one of the few to utter the word abortion at the convention, but don\u2019t buy it. Hers is nothing more than masking abortion in euphemisms, when the truth is that this \u201ccare\u201d means taking away children\u2019s opportunity to \u201clive their lives,\u201d imposing far harsher, more final \u201climits\u201d or \u201cceilings\u201d on their dreams\u2014like being incinerated, flushed down the drain, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stopstericycle.com\/\">taken away in a medical waste truck<\/a>, or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2010\/11\/22\/state-5688\/\">tossed in a dumpster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">As first lady, Hillary declared to the world that, &#8220;women&#8217;s rights are human rights.\u201d<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>True. But y\u2019know what else is a human right? The right not to be killed just because somebody else decides they&#8217;d be better off without you existing. Unfortunately, that\u2019s what Clinton and Richards really mean by their euphemisms: <a href=\"\/news\/rubio-right-call-hillary-clinton-pro-abortion-even-due-date\/\">trampling on the right to life of millions of humans, at any stage of development<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">As Secretary of State, she was a champion for women and girls around the globe.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Only if by \u201cchampion\u201d you mean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/hillary-clinton-abortion-must-be-a-core-priority-for-work-in-developing-cou\">someone who tells them<\/a> they and their societies can\u2019t advance without embracing abortion.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">To fathers who want their daughters to be paid equal to their sons.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Good news! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativereview.com\/commentary\/2016\/07\/the-gender-wage-gap-is-a-myth\">They already are<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">To parents who need paid family leave and affordable child care.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"\/news\/pro-lifers-view-paid-family-leave\/\">Nobody&#8217;s against either of those<\/a>; some of us just want to be careful not to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/05\/26\/upshot\/when-family-friendly-policies-backfire.html\">hurt the women we&#8217;re trying to help<\/a> by trying to micromanage them through government.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And she has chosen as her running mate, Tim Kaine, a man who has been a champion for women and families his entire career.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As we\u2019ve <a href=\"\/news\/potential-vp-pick-tim-kaine-personally-opposed-abortion-yet-100-percent-voting-record-naral\/\">been covering<\/a>, Kaine was never really much of a pro-lifer. But it is fascinating that Richards thinks he still qualified as a \u201cchampion for women and families\u201d during the parts of his career where he supported things like parental notification and banning late-term abortion\u2014y\u2019know, the same policies that Richards and her ilk claim make you a sexist Neanderthal for supporting today\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Hillary has always been in Planned Parenthood&#8217;s corner, because she knows women deserve someone in theirs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Women like Dayna Farris-Fisher, a mom in Dallas who was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Today, Dayna is cancer-free. She says she couldn&#8217;t have done it without Vivian, the Planned Parenthood clinician who stuck with her all the way through treatment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Richards is purposefully vague about what Planned Parenthood actually did here, so we turn to Farris-Fisher\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2015\/10\/01\/planned-parenthood-is-why-im-alive-today-commentary.html\">column last fall<\/a>. Did Planned Parenthood do her mammogram? No, Richards <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-ceo-falsely-told-congress-they-never-claimed-to-provide-mammograms\/\">finally admitted last year<\/a> her organization doesn\u2019t do those. Further diagnostic testing? Nope.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out that \u201cVivian\u201d helped her obtain financial assistance for the testing and make sure she was scheduled for the right tests. Valuable work, to be sure, but let\u2019s remember that after defunding Planned Parenthood, that money would still go to support and expand <a href=\"\/news\/women-dont-need-planned-parenthood-for-breast-exams\/\">those same services through less controversial\u00a0providers<\/a>. Let\u2019s keep in mind that if women like Dayna really were Planned Parenthood\u2019s highest priority, they would have stopped murdering children long ago, eliminating objections to their tax funding almost overnight.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">He wants to punish women for having abortions.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Something that (a) <a href=\"\/news\/pro-lifers-react-to-trumps-claim-that-women-should-be-punished-for-abortions\/\">the vast majority of pro-lifers oppose<\/a>, (b) Trump <a href=\"http:\/\/politifact.com\/truth-o-meter\/statements\/2016\/jul\/26\/barbara-boxer\/dnc-barbara-boxer-says-trump-said-women-should-be-\/\">admitted was a misstatement just hours later<\/a>, and (c) Trump in all likelihood <a href=\"\/news\/media-seizes-on-trumps-latest-gaffe-to-attack-pro-lifers\/\">never actually believed<\/a> and recklessly said solely because he thoughtlessly assumed it\u2019s what pro-lifers wanted to hear. The incident certainly reflects poorly on Trump, but not for Richards\u2019 nonsensical, opportunistic spin that he\u2019d actually lock women up.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And he says pregnancy is an &#8220;inconvenience&#8221; for a woman&#8217;s employer.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A comment <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2016-election\/trump-2004-pregnancy-inconvenience-employers-n580366\">Trump made<\/a> way back in 2004, during his \u201c<a href=\"\/news\/donald-trump-abortion-muddle\/\">very pro-choice<\/a>\u201d days (he <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.cbn.com\/thebrodyfile\/archive\/2011\/04\/08\/brody-file-exclusive-donald-trump-explains-pro-life-conversion\">flipped roughly around 2011<\/a>). PolitiFact <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politifact.com\/ohio\/statements\/2016\/jun\/24\/hillary-clinton\/clinton-trump-called-pregnant-employees-inconvenie\/\">admits<\/a> they \u201cwere unable to find any additional comments made by Trump about women employees becoming pregnant.\u201d So really, Richards is simply highlighting what was at the time the musing of a fellow abortion ally.<\/p>\n<p>Gee, it\u2019s almost as if what Cecile Richards decides to say has more to do with what\u2019s politically useful to present the abortion industry as heroic underdogs rather than what\u2019s
