{"id":97757,"date":"2016-07-18T13:28:50","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T17:28:50","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=97757"},"modified":"2016-07-18T13:28:50","modified_gmt":"2016-07-18T17:28:50","slug":"hellohyde-initiative-celebrates-millions-of-lives-saved-by-the-hyde-amendment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/hellohyde-initiative-celebrates-millions-of-lives-saved-by-the-hyde-amendment\/","title":{"rendered":"#HelloHyde initiative celebrates millions of lives saved by the Hyde Amendment"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>As the Hyde Amendment approaches\u00a0its 40th anniversary, pro-life advocates are coming together to celebrate this life-saving rider which has been added to the federal budget every year with bipartisan support since 1976.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Coordinated by Secular Pro-Life, the social media initiative announced in a Monday press release is known as #<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hellohyde.org\/\">HelloHyde<\/a>.\u00a0Under the Hyde Amendment, federal dollars cannot be use to fund abortions except in rare exceptions.<\/p>\n<p>Those interested in the initiative can sign up for the mailing list through the website to receive updates about the September 30, 2016 anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hellohyde.org\/\">the website<\/a>, their goals are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p>Celebrate the lives saved by the Hyde Amendment and the lives of all Medicaid kids.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p>Preserve the Hyde Amendment against attacks from the abortion lobby.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote><p>Expand the Hyde Amendment to cover children in every state and children conceived through violence, and cut the abortion industry off from all sources of taxpayer funding (not just Medicaid).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The initiative allows people to meet those who were saved because of the Hyde Amendment, as well as those born and helped with the Medicaid program.<\/p>\n<p>#HelloHyde spokeswoman Gina Mallica is one of the recipients\u00a0Medicaid assistance.\u00a0 \u201cI received Medicaid care as a baby, so the Hyde Amendment is incredibly important to me.\u00a0 Low-income children deserve a chance at life, not a government-subsidized death,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Stargift Thomas, a spokeswoman who was born and helped through\u00a0Medicaid in 1991, echoed the sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor forty years, the Hyde Amendment has affirmed that lives like mine are worth living,\u201d Thomas\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, not all agree that the lives of Mallica and Thomas are worth saving. The abortion lobby \u2014 and the 2016 Democratic Party platform \u2014 have <a href=\"\/news\/tag\/all-above-all\/\">called for<\/a> the repeal of the Hyde Amendment. Rather than offering true solutions and assistance to low-income women during their pregnancies, some would rather take taxpayer dollars to kill their children through abortion, <a href=\"\/news\/top-reasons-why-taxpayers-should-not-be-paying-for-abortions\/\">an unpopular and bad<\/a> choice.<\/p>\n<p>That notion is a stark one for many, especially those who are alive today because of the Hyde Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Mallica said &#8220;the repeal efforts are offensive to the many Americans who owe their lives to the Hyde Amendment.&#8221;\u00a0She added,\u00a0&#8220;The #HelloHyde campaign puts faces to this life-or-death issue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/AbortionProcedures.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-88619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg\" alt=\"levatino-ad-LAN\" width=\"306\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg 306w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For now at least,\u00a0 the Hyde Amendment is still in place and will be around to see its 40th anniversary. Thomas called it &#8220;a time to celebrate,&#8221; and references the over <a href=\"\/news\/happy-annviersary-to-the-hyde-amendment\/\">one million lives<\/a> it has saved.\u00a0&#8220;We are confident that it will save many more in the future,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>This bipartisan, common-sense and life-saving amendment ought to\u00a0be celebrated for many\u00a0years to
