Ever hear how the abortion industry cares about women? Its history of lying to women<\/a> and helping the men who abuse them<\/a> makes that tough to believe. New information from Texas isn\u2019t making it easier.<\/p>\n

The Texas Tribune reports<\/a> that there are currently 19 abortion centers in the state, down from 40 in 2013. Why? They\u2019re refusing to comply with basic health and safety rules.<\/p>\n

Texas passed HB 2 in 2012, legislation designed to protect women from unsafe conditions. It requires abortionists to have hospital admitting privileges within 30 miles of where they operate, while another provision (yet to go into effect) demands that abortion facilities uphold the same standards as other surgical centers.<\/p>\n

Admitting privileges ensure that in the event of an emergency, the hospital will know of a woman\u2019s condition and be prepared to deal with it as soon as she arrives. That\u2019s important, as there have been multiple examples<\/a> of women who\u2019ve died while awaiting care following botched abortions. Even some in the abortion industry recognize the value of admitting privileges: in 2000, the National Abortion Federation (NAF) recommended<\/a> that women use abortion providers who \u201c[i]n the case of an emergency,\u201d can \u201cadmit patients to a nearby hospital (no more than 20 minutes away).\u201d<\/p>\n

Raising clinic standards is vital too, something inspections at the abortion chain Whole Woman\u2019s Health (WWH) have demonstrated.<\/p>\n

A 2013 inspection of WWH\u2019s center in Beaumont, TX revealed<\/a> \u201cnumerous rusty spots on the suction machines,\u201d something that \u201chad the likelihood to cause infection.\u201d They also noted the potential for \u201crodents to enter the facility.\u201d<\/p>\n

That came after a 2012 inspection<\/a> revealed \u201cinfection control issues\u201d as staff didn\u2019t \u201cperform the correct procedure for the sterilization of the surgical instruments.\u201d Back in 2007, WWH was fined<\/a> for not having \u201ca midlevel provider, a registered nurse, or a \u00a0licensed vocational nurse\u201d there either:<\/p>\n
