Louisiana recently became the latest state to ban<\/a> the dismemberment abortion procedure, also known as dilation & evacuation abortion. With something as manifestly vile as tearing children limb from limb in the public eye, abortion apologists have their work cut out for them in sanitizing things.<\/p>\n

Or, they would put work into it if there was any possible way to make dismembering babies sound any better. But there\u2019s not, so ThinkProgress\u2019s Laurel Raymond has settled for the next best thing<\/a>: deny, deny, deny; and hope nobody asks too many questions…<\/p>\n

[D&E abortion is] held up by the World Health Organization as the gold standard for later abortions, and is the only remaining legal option for second trimester abortions \u2014 which comprise about 10 percent of abortions \u2014 that doctors consider safe.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Or is it that D&E abortions are better for the abortionists<\/a><\/em>, so they can fit more abortions into their schedule? The WHO has<\/a> been<\/a> known<\/a> to show a pro-abortion slant before, so its approval isn\u2019t exactly the last word on the subject. Moreover, as Ian Tuttle explains<\/a>, saying we must allow dismemberment abortions for the sake of maternal safety \u201cmistakes \u2014 or substitutes \u2014 a secondary question for the primary moral one,\u201d which is, \u201cdoes the procedure involve one human being, or two?\u201d<\/p>\n

Abortion opponents, however, have targeted the procedure with graphic and inflammatory terms, misleadingly describing it as tearing babies \u201climb from limb<\/a>.\u201d Anti-abortion advocates have even compared D&E to the medieval torture drawing and quartering<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Rather than ask a single reader to believe a pro-lifer, let\u2019s discredit this lie using nothing but direct quotes from the abortion industry itself. The National Abortion Federation\u2019s own instructional materials describe<\/a> \u201cgrasping a fetal part,\u201d then \u201cwithdraw[ing] the forceps while gently rotating it,\u201d for the purpose of achieving \u201cseparation.\u201d If that\u2019s not clear enough, NAF also describes \u201cfetal extremit[ies]\u201d (i.e., limbs), \u201cfetal trunk[s],\u201d and \u201cfetal skeletal development.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, notorious<\/a> late-term abortionist Warren Hern even confirms<\/a> \u201cthere is no possibility of denial of an act of destruction by the operator [of D&E procedures]. It is before one’s eyes. The sensations of dismemberment flow through the forceps like an electric current.\u201d<\/p>\n
