This month,\u00a0the New York State Assembly passed a bill<\/a> declaring, \u201cThe state shall not deny a woman’s right to obtain an abortion as established by the United States Supreme Court in the decision Roe. v. Wade.\u201d<\/p>\n

One lawmaker, Republican Assemblyman Ron Castorina, Jr. was so disgusted that during the debate, he declared that his enlightened, politically correct colleagues had actually just voted to codify \u201cAfrican American genocide.” Of course, abortion advocates did not take kindly to the suggestion that they might not have the moral high ground on race relations. Not kindly at all.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Castorina\u00a0has not backed down<\/a> amid the ensuing media furor, and pro-life leader Dr. Alveda King<\/a>, niece of Martin Luther King, Jr.,\u00a0applauded his remarks<\/a> for \u201cspeaking this truth to members of the Assembly who clearly could not bear to hear it.\u201d But if you thought a black leader who knew one of history\u2019s greatest civil rights heroes better than almost anyone alive today would stop pro-aborts from claiming to speak for black America, think again.<\/p>\n

At the Gothamist, white<\/a> Associate Editor Rebecca Fishbein attacks Castorina<\/a> for his comments, checking off all the obligatory boxes except the truth. I only bring up her race because she made an issue of the Assemblyman\u2019s in her second sentence, and concludes by calling his remarks \u201cwhitemansplaining.\u201d<\/p>\n

So his whiteness makes him unfit to raise the issue, but yours isn\u2019t a hindrance to condemning his argument? If you were debating the issue with King or other black pro-lifers like Pastor Clenard Childress<\/a>, Ryan Bomberger<\/a>, Stacey Dash<\/a>, or Sheriff David Clarke<\/a>, would you being the one \u201cwhitegirlsplaining\u201d make you automatically wrong?<\/p>\n

Assemblyman Ron Castorina, Jr. pointed to a report<\/a> asserting that 15 million African Americans have been “murdered” (sigh) since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Sorry, but a sigh and scare quotes aren\u2019t enough to discredit a true statement. The things abortion kills are objectively<\/a>, irrefutably<\/a> human beings<\/a>. What does society call it whenever human beings are killed out of selfish desire rather than self-defense<\/a>? Murder.<\/p>\n

\n

Some pointed out that Castorina’s comments were offensive both to women and the black community.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As the surviving Dr. King says, \u201cthe truth is not racist.\u201d Nobody is saying black women are intrinsically less compassionate for their children. It\u2019s the industry we\u2019re talking about\u2014an industry whose employees have been known to agree to earmark donations<\/a> specifically to kill black kids, contributing to a world where abortion does<\/em> disproportionately kill black children<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And again, there are a great many blacks, women, and black women who not only don\u2019t think it’s offensive to discuss abortion’s disproportionate racial impact, but think denying it is the true offense. That\u2019s the problem with trying to end conversations through the color of speakers\u2019 skin rather than the content of their arguments: it\u2019s only a matter of time before a dissenting opinion breaks the pattern.<\/p>\n

Assemblyman Charles Barron, who missed Castorina’s initial speech, pointed out that Castorina’s argument was the \u201cheight of…racist hypocrisy [\u2026] People who mention abortions about black women and the black community, they don\u2019t give a hoot about black lives. So now, all of a sudden black lives matter \u2014 ooh they love our babies, they love our women now.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Silly me! Here I thought the point of opposing bigotry was that it\u2019s wrong<\/em> to make wild, generalized accusations against groups of people without evidence that a specific person does or doesn\u2019t care about people\u2019s lives. Thanks for clearing that up, Assemblyman Barron! Otherwise, I might have pointed out that the hypocrisy charge fits even better on his side, which endlessly declares \u201cBlack Lives Matter\u201d while exterminating preborn black lives<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There is real bigotry at work here, and the pro-abortion accusations of racism are nothing more than smokescreens to obscure it: excluding preborn babies from society\u2019s understanding of personhood, pretending they\u2019re something subhuman to rationalize their destruction. That the bigotry has taken root is the only reason anyone can get away with denigrating Assemblyman Castorina\u2019s remarks as outrageous rather than obvious.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
