{"id":95851,"date":"2016-06-08T11:07:44","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T15:07:44","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=95851"},"modified":"2016-06-08T11:07:44","modified_gmt":"2016-06-08T15:07:44","slug":"renee-ellmers-loses-to-pro-life-challenger-george-holding-by-30-points","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/renee-ellmers-loses-to-pro-life-challenger-george-holding-by-30-points\/","title":{"rendered":"Renee Ellmers loses to pro-life challenger George Holding by 30 points"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Congressman George Holding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wral.com\/polls-close-on-unusual-june-primary-for-congress-state-supreme-court\/15761375\/\">defeated<\/a> Congresswoman Renee Ellmers in Tuesday&#8217;s Republican primary for South Carolina&#8217;s 2nd District congressional primary, a race a number of pro-life leaders had <a href=\"\/news\/national-right-life-rep-renee-ellmers-pro-life-traitor\/\">taken special interest<\/a> in for the latter&#8217;s role in derailing the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act last year.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2015, despite a vote on the bill to ban abortions at 20 weeks having been scheduled to coincide with the March for Life, Ellmers <a href=\"\/news\/renee-ellmers-excuses-for-house-abortion-meltdown-still-not-compelling\/\">raised objections<\/a>, arguing it was too extreme to require that women report rapes to qualify for the rape exception.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Both the National Right to Life Committee and Susan B. Anthony List condemned Ellmers for her actions and endorsed Holding, a co-sponsor of the 20-week abortion ban, to replace her.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/AbortionProcedures.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-88619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg\" alt=\"levatino-ad-LAN\" width=\"306\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg 306w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sba-list.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/ellmers-defeated-pro-life-victory-north-carolina\">press release<\/a> from the Susan B. Anthony List reported last night:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Below are key findings from SBA List\u2019s door surveys&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>37.8% of Ellmers\u2019s own supporters said they were less likely to vote for her knowing her role in derailing the Pain-Capable bill.<\/li>\n<li>67.3% of undecided pro-life primary voters were less likely to vote for Ellmers knowing her role in derailing the Pain-Capable bill.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser stated,\u00a0\u201c[Ellmers] has her own failed leadership to blame for this loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Holding won by an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsobserver.com\/news\/politics-government\/election\/article82382042.html\">approximate<\/a> 30-point margin, the day after presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/donald-trump-endorses-rep-renee-ellmers-who-spiked-pro-life-law\">endorsed<\/a> Ellmers.
