Last week, in a letter to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, 181 of 188 House Democrats demanded an end to the ongoing Congressional investigation of Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry with regards to the trafficking of fetal tissue, which is a federal offense.\u00a0In the letter, pro-abortion politicians\u00a0slammed the investigation, specifically\u00a0objecting to recent\u00a0subpoenas for records from\u00a0abortionists and abortion facilities\u00a0involved in fetal tissue research.<\/p>\n

According to the Columbia Daily Herald<\/a>, pro-abortion politicians\u00a0are claiming that Republicans leading the\u00a0investigation are\u00a0“putting lives at risk” by issuing subpoenas to key players in the abortion industry, asserting that “[w]e disgrace ourselves by allowing this misconduct [the investigation] to continue.”<\/p>\n

Now Rep. Marsha Blackburn, chairwoman of the Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives which is conducting the investigation, is firing back<\/a>. Blackburn maintains that the subpoenas are necessary, as\u00a0some clinics have refused to turn over documents relevant to the\u00a0sale of fetal body parts. Blackburn said<\/a>:<\/p>\n

The question everyone should be asking is why are Democrats so afraid of\u00a0letting the truth come out….<\/p>\n

We must continue to pursue these records if we are ever going to get the facts that we need in order to complete our investigation. The American people deserve nothing less.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Despite efforts to quell the investigation, Speaker Ryan has displayed no intent to cave to the\u00a0demands. Ashlee Strong, Ryan’s spokeswoman,\u00a0said<\/a>, “Speaker Ryan supports the select committee\u2019s continued efforts to protect infant lives.”<\/p>\n

The committee, which is comprised of\u00a0eight Republicans and six Democrats, was\u00a0dubbed<\/a> by Democrat House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi — even before the investigation began — as the “Select Committee to Attack Women’s Health.”<\/p>\n
