{"id":95270,"date":"2016-05-31T19:09:11","date_gmt":"2016-05-31T23:09:11","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=95270"},"modified":"2016-05-31T18:23:44","modified_gmt":"2016-05-31T22:23:44","slug":"canadian-pregnancy-centers-respond-to-pro-abortion-activists-attacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/canadian-pregnancy-centers-respond-to-pro-abortion-activists-attacks\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian pregnancy centers respond to pro-abortion activist&#8217;s attacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Pro-life pregnancy center leaders in Canada are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/canadian-pregnancy-centers-rebut-latest-pro-abortion-report-targeting-them\">responding<\/a> to a new claim\u00a0by pro-abortion activist Joyce Arthur that the centers deceive pregnant women, a report which AdvoKate Life and Education Services executive director Jared White dismisses as \u201cabout as scientific as a restaurant menu.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report, released by Arthur\u2019s Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada, accuses pregnancy centers of hiding their religious identities, promoting abstinence, dispensing medical advice without the proper regulations, and misleading women on abortion risks.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->On Monday, White told LifeSiteNews that \u201conly the news media would take something like this seriously,\u201d and abortion facilities, \u201cwhich I do not believe are telling their patients the whole truth about abortion\u2019s impacts,\u201d are the ones who need investigating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA pregnancy centre may not say on its website that it will not refer people for an abortion or contraception,\u201d White continued, \u201cbut I can guarantee you that once the young women are inside our centre they find that out right away.\u201d He also noted that ARCC did not talk to women about their experiences with pregnancy centers, and stood by the pro-abstinence message, which <a href=\"\/news\/abstinence-hating-bloggers-double-down-on-exploiting-elizabeth-smart\/\">studies have shown is highly effective<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/AbortionProcedures.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-88619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg\" alt=\"levatino-ad-LAN\" width=\"306\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg 306w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Canadian Association of Pregnancy Support Services executive director Dr. Laura Lewis added that the sixty-plus pregnancy centers under her organization\u2019s umbrella are upfront about the disputed nature of the link between abortion and breast cancer: \u201cWe say there is a possible risk of breast cancer, with an asterisk leading to a footnote that advises this is highly controversial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the report claims almost half of Canadian pregnancy centers \u201cmentioned negative psychological consequences, primarily in the context of \u2018Postabortion Syndrome\u2019, which is not medically recognized,\u201d but the specific question also referred more generally to negative psychological consequences of abortion in addition to \u201cPostabortion Syndrome\u201d &#8212; so in truth, 80% of the\u00a0pregnancy centers did not actually present the consequences as a specific, named syndrome.<\/p>\n<p>As Live Action News has previously covered, <a href=\"\/news\/debunking-narals-lies-about-crisis-pregnancy-centers-part-two\/\">there is extensive medical evidence<\/a> indicating a link between abortion and breast cancer, as well as harmful long-term effects on a woman\u2019s mental health. American abortion advocates often attack pro-life\u00a0pregnancy centers on similar grounds, claims which Live Action has also\u00a0<a
