Former New Mexico governor and Libertarian Party front runner\u00a0Gov. Johnson has pledged not to fund abortion.\u00a0You can find that promise on his campaign website<\/a>, under a section labeled \u201cAbortion and the Right to Life.\u201d It\u2019s strange Johnson would label a section \u201cright to life\u201d when his statements on the topic shows\u00a0he doesn\u2019t believe in it.<\/p>\n

In a 2011 Rolling Stone Magazine interview<\/a>, Johnson noted:<\/p>\n

“I support women’s rights to choose up until viability of the fetus. I’ve supported the notion of parental notification. I’ve supported counseling and I’ve supported the notion that public funds not be used for abortions. But I don’t want for a second to pretend that I have a better idea of how a woman should choose when it comes to this situation. Fundamentally this is a choice that a woman should have.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Johnson insists that \u201cthe right of a woman to choose is the law of the land today\u201d (apparently abortion\u2019s the only thing women make choices about), so it \u201cmust be respected.\u201d According to him, that \u201cright\u201d exists up until viability<\/a>–usually said to be 24 weeks, although some children have survived delivery at 22<\/a>.<\/p>\n
