On Wednesday, the Michigan Senate voted<\/a> 25-11 to pass a pair of pro-life bills, HB 4787 and HB 4830, that would protect women from being coerced into having abortions.<\/p>\n

One would make it a felony to stalk or assault a pregnant woman for the purpose of pressuring her into an abortion. The other would make it a misdemeanor to threaten to withhold legally-required financial aid or employment if she refuses to abort.<\/p>\n

The legislation passed<\/a> the state House 65-43 in March, and now go to pro-life<\/a> Republican Gov. Rick Snyder for his signature, at which point it would take effect immediately.<\/p>\n

“Let’s send a strong message today to the pimps and the people out there human trafficking women that as they drag them across the parking lot,” Republican State Sen. Rick Jones declared in support of the reforms, that “they’re facing large fines and let’s consider sending them to prison, too.”<\/p>\n

GOP Senator Judy Emmons added<\/a>, “We\u2019re dealing with an issue when someone is in a situation where they\u2019ve been trafficked and forced to kill the child living within them \u2014 one of the most heinous things you can do to a victim and ultimately a survivor.”<\/p>\n
