Furthermore,\u00a0any limitation on when a\u00a0women can obtain an abortion is also decried by abortion supporters.<\/p>\n<p>But is the United States overly strict on abortion, or are we too permissive?<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Elisha Krauss compares\u00a0abortion laws in America, versus abortion laws in Europe in a video for Prager University\u2014and the results may be surprising for some:<\/p>\n<p>[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IHrihwWJv8o&amp;w=853&amp;h=480]<\/p>\n<p>While individual states may have stricter &#8212; or more permissive &#8212; abortion laws, the United States is <a href=\"http:\/\/dailysignal.com\/2014\/03\/12\/report-u-s-one-seven-countries-allows-late-term-abortion\/\">one of a small handful of countries to allow late-term abortions.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Only four countries, two of which are China and North Korea, allow abortions up until birth. Most countries understand that there is no reason to allow a woman to abort a preborn baby after 20 weeks of pregnancy, as do <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/the-fix\/wp\/2013\/08\/02\/guess-who-likes-the-gops-20-week-abortion-ban-women\/\">a majority of Americans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-68636 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg\" alt=\"DefundAd-400b\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg 400w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Many Americans also support <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallup.com\/poll\/20203\/americans-favor-parental-involvement-teen-abortion-decisions.aspx\">parental notification laws<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/general_politics\/january_2014\/49_favor_waiting_period_before_abortion\">waiting periods<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallup.com\/poll\/1576\/abortion.aspx\">multiple other restrictions<\/a>, including\u00a0the partial birth abortion ban, counseling before abortion, and telling women about alternatives to abortion before undergoing the procedure. Yet none of these restrictions are\u00a0in place nationwide. Despite being favored by many Americans,\u00a0these laws are\u00a0only being\u00a0enforced\u00a0in select states. However,\u00a0abortion advocates <em>still<\/em> think that abortion laws in the United States are too strict.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, in Europe, abortion is much more restricted. Waiting periods are commonplace in multiple countries;\u00a0abortion is frequently banned after 12 weeks.\u00a0While some places, like the United Kingdom, allow abortions past the first trimester, late-term abortions are almost universally banned.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abortionprocedures.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-88619 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg\" alt=\"levatino-ad-LAN\" width=\"306\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg 306w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are countries that require women to even tell authorities why they want to have an abortion before the procedure can be approved; others require mandatory counseling beforehand.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at America&#8217;s abortion laws versus those in the rest of the world, it becomes overwhelmingly clear: America&#8217;s laws are extreme, but not in the way that abortion advocates believe.
