The crime was witnessed by her three-year-old son Zachaeus, who was also shot but survived.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->&#8220;She loved being a mother,&#8221; Pickens&#8217;s aunt, Irene Pickens, said. &#8220;And no matter what she was going through, I think he was the one thing that kept her going.&#8221; The boy was also injured, to the point of losing his left eye, but is in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>The family says Pickens&#8217;s boyfriend, Nathaniel Elijah Dixon, was infuriated upon learning she had become pregnant with his own son, which they believe was the reason he killed her. &#8220;It wasn\u2019t an option for her, and that\u2019s what sparked the violence,&#8221; Irene Pickens said. The police have declined to comment on motive.<\/p>\n<p>Dixon, who has a history of domestic abuse, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/morning-mix\/wp\/2016\/05\/18\/pregnant-woman-executed-because-she-refused-an-abortion-family-says\/\">has been arrested and charged<\/a> with first-degree murder for the deaths of both Pickens and her preborn child. He was found in Columbus, Ohio, where police rescued a 21-year-old woman he had taken hostage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/AbortionProcedures.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-88619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg\" alt=\"levatino-ad-LAN\" width=\"306\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg 306w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So many loved ones have lost such an amazing person,&#8221; lamented friend Vanessa Peterson, &#8220;and more importantly an innocent child has not only witnessed his mother\u2019s murder the day after his third birthday.\u201d Peterson has set up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/23yurepk\">a GoFundMe page<\/a> to raise money for her memorial service, which has raised $8,782 of a $20,000 goal as of the time of this writing.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Live Action&#8217;s Adam Peters <a href=\"\/news\/pro-abortion-violence-isnt-rare-just-rarely-mentioned\/\">recounted<\/a> numerous instances of abusive men using violence to pressure women into abortion or punish them for choosing life.
