{"id":94116,"date":"2016-05-10T15:23:34","date_gmt":"2016-05-10T19:23:34","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=94116"},"modified":"2016-05-11T02:05:37","modified_gmt":"2016-05-11T06:05:37","slug":"hillary-got-it-right","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/hillary-got-it-right\/","title":{"rendered":"Hillary got it right"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On April 5<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 2016, Hillary Clinton got it right. \u00a0Her statement brought criticism from the right and the left, but she was right. \u00a0During an interview on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meet The Press<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with Chuck Todd, Hillary referred to the unborn fetus as \u201cthe unborn <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">person\u2026a child\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0\u00a0Science, embryology, and technology support this. \u00a0To say that the unborn is just \u201ctissue\u201d is to deny the facts. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Roe v. Wade passed in 1973, ultrasound technology was in the early stages of development. \u00a0The machines were bulky, the images grainy. \u00a0It wasn\u2019t until the 1980s that ultrasound technology was able to move into the clinical and office settings. \u00a0\u00a0Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) was not available until 1977, and it was not widely utilized until much later.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now we have Micro-MRI technology, fetoscopy, and scanning electron microscopes that can photograph minuscule details of a sperm fertilizing an ovum (egg), cell division and embryonic development. \u00a0The Human Genome project wasn\u2019t completed until April of 2003. \u00a0The rapid advances in science and technology since that time have helped us better understand the cellular activity from the early pluripotent stem cell that differentiates into highly specialized cells. \u00a0Just like a newborn child needs someone to feed him\/her, the child developing in the uterus does get nutrients from the mother. \u00a0Otherwise this child is fully\/internally programed for its own development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the time of conception, the developing child has its own unique DNA blueprint that programs every intricate, minute detail beginning with the initial cell division all the way through intrauterine development, birth, childhood and into old age.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei, a biotech consultant, it would take you approximately 50 years, at a rate of 60 words\/minute for 8 hours a day, to type the the human genome, taking up 3 gigabytes of storage space.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s a lot of information. \u00a0Research has pulled back the curtain to reveal how DNA programming causes signaling molecules, transcription molecules and growth factors to stimulate growth and development at a specific rate and order, as well as feedback to slow or stop growth. \u00a0At the end of the first month the size of the developing child in the womb increases 10,000x. \u00a0In fact, without these internal feedback mechanisms, if growth continued at this rate, the child would weigh 1.5 tons at birth!<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0Ouch!.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is absolutely amazing to see a transvaginal ultrasound at 5-6 weeks gestation, when the size of the baby is about the size of a sesame seed or lentil. \u00a0You can see the heart beat! \u00a0\u00a0In fact, embryologist Dr. Keith Moore, in his book entitled, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology (10<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ed, 2015), <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">states, \u201cBy the end of the third week, the blood is circulating, and the heart begins to beat on the 21<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or 22<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> day. \u00a0The cardiovascular system is the first organ system to reach a functional state.\u201d \u00a0Before many women know they are pregnant, there is a heart beat. \u00a0As this child grows into adulthood, the heart will continue to beat on average 100,000 times a day, about 3 billion heartbeats over an average lifetime, over about 60,000 miles in length.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The developing \u2018person\u2019\/\u2019child\u2019 in the womb is no clump of tissue. \u00a0This is a miraculous life. \u00a0Even the renowned atheist, Christopher Hitchens, understood this. \u00a0He noted, \u00a0\u201c \u2018Unborn child\u2019 seems to me to be a real concept. \u00a0It\u2019s not a growth or an appendix\u201d (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newsweek,12\/8\/08). \u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a YouTube discussion he said, \u201cIt seems to me obvious from the discoveries of biology and embryology that the concept of \u2018unborn child\u2019 is a real one.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, it may have been an unintended slip-up on her part, but Hillary was right when she referred to the unborn as a \u201cperson.\u201d \u00a0 We can no longer ignore the facts. \u00a0To deny this is to deny science. \u00a0It doesn\u2019t matter whether a woman has a medical abortion (pill) or a surgical abortion, in either case a heart is stopped and a life ends. \u00a0Is this life any less valuable than yours?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">References:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lei, HH. \u00a0Eye On DNA: \u00a0100 Facts about DNA (August 2007). Over the years Wendy has volunteered with pregnancy centers, the Navigators, and Prison Fellowship. Wendy is married to her best friend, Fred.
