On Tuesday, Arizona Republican Governor Doug Ducey signed into law<\/a> a budget stripping at least $200,000 in funding from Planned Parenthood, calling<\/a> the budget “proof the government can live within its means and be responsible with the people\u2019s money.”<\/p>\n

The budget, which takes effect on July 1, ends abortion providers’ practice of charging the government for more than the cost of medications, which Planned Parenthood is accused of using to obtain “reimbursements” up to ten times the actual cost.<\/p>\n

The provision was added<\/a> to the budget by an amendment last week. The language exempts licensed hospitals and outpatient facilities operated or owned by licensed hospitals, and calls for a study to determine just how widespread the over-billing practice is.<\/p>\n

Accusations of Planned Parenthood’s over-billing are\u00a0indeed not isolated to a single state. Oklahoma\u00a0found that the abortion giant over-billed its taxpayers at least\u00a01 in 7 times<\/a>. The state of Washington settled with Planned Parenthood out of court in 2010, with the organization\u00a0paying back just over half<\/a>\u00a0of what it allegedly over-billed taxpayers.\u00a0A former staffer at Planned Parenthood of the Heartland in\u00a0Iowa<\/a>\u00a0also says she witnessed\u00a0fraud and over-billing of Medicaid, stating that the abortion giant paid under $3 for the same\u00a0birth control for which\u00a0it\u00a0would then charge the state’s Medicaid program $35. And that was just the tip of the iceberg.<\/p>\n

Center for Arizona Policy President Cathi Herrod praises Arizona lawmakers for legislation enabling the state to entirely disqualify Medicaid providers who abuse the program, banning the sale of aborted babies’ body parts, and requiring abortionists to fully inform patients of RU-486’s medical risks and effectiveness rates.<\/p>\n
