During a recent discussion on The McLaughlin Group regarding\u00a0a\u00a0new Georgia law funding pro-life pregnancy resource centers, The Daily Beast’s columnist Eleanor Clift told a whopper of a tale about Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

While Clift\u00a0noted that she doesn’t have an issue with the state funding pregnancy centers, she said she\u00a0objects when\u00a0“they try to cut funding to\u00a0Planned Parenthood which provides a lot of health services and a very small number of abortions.”<\/p>\n

Oh my. It seems that Ms. Clift has some research to do…<\/p>\n

At\u00a0Newsbusters<\/a>, Jack Coleman rightly notes that more than 300,000 abortions per year isn’t exactly a “very small number”:<\/p>\n

Translation: 300,000-plus abortions annually,\u00a0nearly one in every three<\/a>\u00a0in the U.S., making Planned Parenthood the country’s leading abortion “provider”. But what some deem paltry.<\/p>\n

Clift likely meant to say was that abortions comprise a “very small” percentage of Planned Parenthood’s services, which also include pregnancy tests and cancer screenings. But this too is a dodge, as detailed by Rich Lowry in a\u00a0withering\u00a0New York Post<\/em>\u00a0op-ed.<\/a>..<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In a video from the Center for Medical Progress, Planned Parenthood Federation of America medical director Dr. Deborah Nucatola claimed that Planned Parenthood has “40 percent of the [abortion] market in the whole country.” As Live Action News’s Danny David reported<\/a>, this may have been a slight exaggeration – but not by much:<\/p>\n

… Planned Parenthood performs about 27.5% of all abortions in the United States, according to the Guttmacher Institute….<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Almost 28% of all abortions in the U.S. yearly are committed by Planned Parenthood.\u00a0What about other women’s health services? Less than 1% of reproductive-age women get breast exams from Planned Parenthood every year, and less than\u00a02.4% get\u00a0Pap smears from the abortion giant\u00a0in a three-year cycle<\/a>.\u00a0Clearly, Planned Parenthood holds a large market share of abortions… but not so much for actual women’s health care. And remember – they don’t do mammograms, according to their own CEO…<\/p>\n
