The Virginia Department of Health has shut down<\/a> an abortion facility operated by notorious abortionist Steven Brigham following numerous violations of basic health standards.\u00a0During their latest inspection of Brigham’s Fairfax location, state investigators found 26 specific deficiencies, including failures to sterilize medical equipment, follow hand-washing protocols, properly store medical records, get rid of expired medications, and more.<\/p>\n

The shoddy practices led to at least one instance where a woman had to be rushed to an emergency room for prolonged bleeding because the facility did not have sutures.<\/p>\n

This is far from the first trouble of this kind Brigham has run into; he operates twelve abortion facilities in Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey. In 2014, this same facility was cited for a similar list of violations, as well as keeping broken equipment and failure to give patients contact information for filing complaints.<\/p>\n

In addition, Live Action News has covered<\/a> how Brigham’s record includes losing his medical licenses in Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania; a conviction for failure to file income taxes; and charges of murder for allegedly performing illegal late-term abortions in Maryland.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is absolutely appalling that it took this long for the state to shut him down, but it\u2019s more appalling that he may still be allowed to operate,\u201d Family Foundation of Virginia president Victoria Cobb declared in response to the news. \u201cVirginians need to understand the very health and safety standards that are intended to protect women from the likes of Steven Brigham are the same standards Terry McAuliffe is trying to water down and eliminate.\u201d<\/p>\n
