The Committee, led by Chairwoman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), focused on \u201cthe pricing of fetal tissue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.house.gov\/meetings\/IF\/IF04\/20160420\/104822\/HHRG-114-IF04-20160420-SD004.pdf\">packet of evidence<\/a> released by the Committee, there were brochures from a tissue procurement company. Although the name of the tissue procurement company was redacted, Democrat members of the Committee referred to the company as StemExpress &#8211; the company that played a <a href=\"\/news\/breaking-brain-harvested-from-intact-baby-with-a-beating-heart-says-eyewitness-inside-planned-parenthood\/\">starring role<\/a> in <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-admits-on-tape-its-a-baby\/\">videos<\/a> released by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerformedicalprogress.org\/cmp\/investigative-footage\/\">Center for Medical Progress<\/a> (CMP).<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The StemExpress brochures advertised the tissue procurement process as \u201cfinancially profitable\u201d and a \u201cpartner program that fiscally rewards your clinic.\u201d Blackburn said in her opening statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">To offer that service, you need abortion clinics \u2013 a lot of abortion clinics \u2013 so you grow your number of clinics and you offer the clinics money to sign up \u2013 you offer them \u201c<em>financial benefit<\/em>\u201d to join in. You tell the clinic that you will do all the work \u2013 all the items on the chart that show the workflow of the procurement technician.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These brochures came up numerous times in the hearing, along with compensation schedules listing the prices for various organs.<\/p>\n<p>According to these compensation schedules, clinics could receive up to $75 per organ. Sources close to Live Action News have stated that invoices used as evidence by the Panel were invoices from StemExpress to Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, the largest Planned Parenthood affiliate in the country.<\/p>\n<p>One of the witnesses for the majority members of the Committee was Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) who used his time to compare this issue to current legislation that attempts to protect infants born alive in abortion clinics. With regard to tissue procurement, Sasse testified that there is humanity to this issue that \u201ctranscends politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the Majority\u2019s witnesses were all attorneys, many of whom were former United States Attorneys for the Department of Justice. One of them, Brian Lennon, stated that \u201ca competent and ethical prosecutor would find probable cause\u201d that abortion clinics in the CMP videos violated the federal fetal tissue statute as well. He also stated that, based on the current evidence, there also seemed to have been a conspiracy to violate the statute. Lennon supported his argument by analyzing the evidence in today\u2019s hearing with the elements of the federal statute.<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth Sukhia, another majority witness, who litigated against Planned Parenthood as a former U.S. Attorney, stated that, in his experience, \u201cmaximizing profit is a major priority of the abortion industry.\u201d Meanwhile, Rep. Joe Pitts showed a screenshot of a website where anybody could use a drop-down menu of various organs to order fetal tissue, calling it \u201cthe Amazon.com of the baby body parts.\u201d Pitts continued, saying, \u201cThis is repulsive. How could anybody defend this practice?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michael Norton, an attorney and former U.S. attorney, and attorney Catherine Glenn Foster, an associate scholar with the Charlotte Lozier institute, were the other witnesses for the majority. Norton testified that \u201c[n]o matter how one stands on the issue of abortion, nobody who has watched these [CMP] videos can come away thinking Planned Parenthood\u2019s harvesting and selling of the lungs, hearts, brains, or other organs of unborn babies is consistent with the values of our American Society.\u201d Meanwhile, Foster testified that \u201cas an attorney dedicated to protecting human beings, she believes that this procurement process demonstrates a flagrant and repeated disregard for the rule of law.\u201d She also explained how offended she is as a post-abortive woman that clinics exploit women for fetal tissue.<\/p>\n<p>The minority members of the committee continued their assault on the authenticity of the CMP videos as well as David Daleiden, the investigative journalist who released the videos. These members also questioned the authenticity of the evidence the majority members introduced. However, at the end of the day, the glaring promotion of \u201cfinancial profitability\u201d in procurement company brochures along with former prosecutors discussing their case for probable cause ruled the day and seemed to get the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2016\/apr\/20\/three-former-us-prosecutors-say-fetal-tissue-profi\/\">national media attention<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday morning, the House Select Committee on Infant Lives held its second hearing looking into the fetal tissue transactions between tissue procurement companies like Stem Express and abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.
