Bill O\u2019Reilly\u2019s done it again. Pro-abortion bloggers are suffering conniptions over the Fox News host\u2019s statements in the below segment the other night:<\/p>\n

O\u2019REILLY: If you are going to say that the two Democrats running for president both favor pretty much abortion at any time, for any reason, and they hide behind the women\u2019s health issue, but that could be a migraine headache, you know. OK, I don\u2019t want to have the kid, my boyfriend left me, my husband left me, whatever it may be, I got a migraine, kid is going to be born next week.<\/p>\n

KIRSTEN POWERS: I don\u2019t think that many people get abortions because they have a migraine headache.<\/p>\n

O\u2019REILLY: It doesn\u2019t matter. It\u2019s theoretical. When you have two candidates saying they don\u2019t want any limitations, alright, in the law place, alright, they don\u2019t want any. And that can happen. We know it happened in Kansas, did that big investigation on Tiller, you know it happened there. And so that\u2019s so radical and so far away from what the American people want that that\u2019s just one example.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Media Matters ran with it<\/a>. Raw Story\u2019s Arturo Garcia characterized<\/a> O\u2019Reilly as saying women will<\/em> \u201cmake up migraines.\u201d Ellen at Crooks and Liars said<\/a> it displayed O\u2019Reilly\u2019s \u201cnaked hatred for women.\u201d Megan C at Left Wing Nation asks<\/a>, \u201cWhere\u2019s the straight-jacket for this guy?\u201d Fusion\u2019s Taryn Hillin wails<\/a> that he insinuated \u201cwomen are somehow cavalier, weak, or lazy for choosing not to have a baby.\u201d Joe Clark at If You Only News calls it<\/a> a \u201csexist asinine abortion argument\u201d that \u201cwill make you want to vomit.\u201d And Sydney Robinson at The Ring of Fire oh-so-cleverly called<\/a> him a \u201cbig pig\u201d spewing \u201chatred and bigotry.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s an awful lot of hyperbole when \u201cwe don\u2019t understand the subject matter\u201d would have gotten the point across just fine.<\/p>\n

The most obvious problem with the hysteria is that abortion advocates’\u00a0premise\u2014\u201cO\u2019Reilly is generalizing about women\u2019s motives and suggesting we\u2019re so weak we get abortions for headaches\u201d\u2014is debunked in the same segment<\/em>. It\u2019s clear he\u2019s not claiming women do<\/em> get abortions for migraines at all, let alone frequently. He\u2019s saying that the abortion lobby and its politicians think that a migraine would be a good enough reason<\/em> to kill your baby, no matter how fully he or she has developed.<\/p>\n

And on that point, he\u2019s absolutely right. Both the candidates he referred to, Hillary Clinton<\/a> and Bernie Sanders<\/a>, have 100% pro-abortion voting records and position ratings with Planned Parenthood and NARAL that place them squarely in favor of abortion-on-demand at any time for any reason. They opposed banning both late-term and partial-birth abortion.<\/p>\n

\"NewDefundAd3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Sanders expressly refuses<\/a> to entertain any<\/em> potential circumstance where the baby is so far along or the justification is so miniscule that abortion would cease to be \u201ca decision to be made by the woman, her physician and her family.\u201d Clinton may say she\u2019s open to third-trimester bans so long as a health exception is in place, but (a) her voting record doesn\u2019t back that claim up, and (b) this brings us to the second major way O\u2019Reilly is right and his critics are wrong.<\/p>\n

According to Roe v. Wade<\/em>, abortions in the last trimester can be banned, but only with an exception for cases where one is necessary to preserve a mother\u2019s health. Doe v. Bolton<\/em> defines<\/a> that health exception as follows:<\/p>\n

\n

[T]he medical judgment may be exercised in the light of all factors \u2013 physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman\u2019s age \u2013 relevant to the wellbeing of the patient. All these factors may relate to health. This allows the attending physician the room he needs to make his best medical judgment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So the Supreme Court mandates a health exception, but no objective criteria for what would or wouldn\u2019t qualify. In other words, \u201chealth\u201d in the context of abortion law can mean anything an abortion-friendly doctor wants it to. If health is broad enough to include anything<\/em> that may be \u201crelevant to the wellbeing of the patient,\u201d even emotional or familial factors, then you can\u2019t really find a clear principle\u2014at least, not one rooted in Roe<\/em> or Doe\u2019s<\/em> text\u2014for why a migraine wouldn\u2019t qualify.<\/p>\n

Finally, it\u2019s worth noting that just because abortions aren\u2019t sought for headaches doesn\u2019t mean the reasons they are sought are that much better<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\n

74% said that the baby would change their life too much<\/p>\n

73% said that babies were too expensive<\/p>\n

48% didn\u2019t want to raise the child alone<\/p>\n

32% did not want another child<\/p>\n

Less than 1% for rape or incest<\/p>\n

Another finding<\/a> from the same study:<\/p>\n

Notably, only 4% cited a “physical problem with my health” as the main factor in their abortions, while 3% identified “possible problems affecting the health of the fetus” as the most important reason behind their decisions.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Some of the reasons may be more sympathetic than others depending on particular circumstances, but when weighed against the fatal sacrifice forced upon the preborn, the vast majority of abortions might as well be for migraines\u2026migraines like the ones caused whenever abortion apologists freak out about Bill O\u2019Reilly or anyone else pushing back against their narrative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
