Trent Franks (@RepTrentFranks) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepTrentFranks\/status\/720643034724069377\">April 14, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Rep. Franks invited three majority witnesses who explained why PRENDA is good and necessary policy: Catherine Davis, President of The Restoration Project and founding member of the National Black Pro-Life Coalition; Anna Higgins, Associate Scholar with the Charlotte Lozier Institute; and Rev. Derek McCoy, National Clergy Relations Director for Center for Urban Renewal and Education.<\/p>\n<p>Catherine Davis gave a well-researched talk, exposing the abortion industry&#8217;s roots in eugenics philosophy and its deliberate targeting of the black family.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tKHsI_FWM9k&amp;w=560&amp;h=315]<\/p>\n<p>In addition to sharing the dark\u00a0history of abortion, Davis told of present day discrimination against preborn children.\u00a0She <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Davis-Testimony-04.14.2016.pdf\">testified<\/a> that in\u00a02010, during legislative hearings for a bill like PRENDA in Georgia, a young white woman was pressured into aborting her child because of race. At the time\u00a0she was 14, and her African-American boyfriend was 22. Although\u00a0the young woman\u00a0wanted her child, her mother refused to let her bring a\u00a0biracial baby home. Even though the teenager told multiple staff workers at the Planned Parenthood in Augusta, Georgia, how much she wanted to keep her baby, the abortion was done regardless.\u00a0She\u00a0was also withheld the ultrasound she was legally required to have and Planned Parenthood failed to report her relationship as statutory rape.<\/p>\n<p>Anna Higgins spoke to the reality of sex-selective abortions. There are an estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Higgins-Testimony-04.14.2016.pdf\">160 million &#8216;missing&#8217; girls<\/a> from sex-selective abortions across the globe.\u00a0 Many assume gendercide doesn&#8217;t takes place in Western nations, but\u00a0Higgins stated that recent\u00a0studies show the practice is present in the U.S. In addition, Higgins\u00a0shared that advanced medical technologies used to diagnose disease &#8211; like prenatal testing &#8211; are being used to select the sex of offspring under the guise of &#8216;family balancing.&#8217; Modern science is also demonstrating that these tests are <a href=\"\/news\/the-problem-with-prenatal-blood-tests\/\">often incorrect<\/a> or <a href=\"\/news\/science-now-proves-babys-abnormalities-womb-can-self-correct\/\">fail to give the full picture<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WpPItLcwwcA&amp;w=560&amp;h=315]<\/p>\n<p>Rev. Derek McCoy shared sentiments from the Rev. Jesse Jackson who was once <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.csail.mit.edu\/mac\/users\/rauch\/nvp\/consistent\/jackson.html\">quoted<\/a> as saying, &#8220;Psychiatrists, social workers, and doctors often argue for abortion on the basis that the child will grow up mentally and emotionally scarred. But who of us is complete? If incompleteness were the criteria for taking life, we would all be dead. If you can justify abortion on the basis of emotional incompleteness, then your logic could also lead you to killing for other forms of incompleteness &#8211; blindness, crippleness, old age.\u00a0&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rev. McCoy shared that we have come to the place Jackson once warned us\u00a0of: we are killing children because of their race and gender, which is a form of &#8220;incompleteness&#8221; in the eyes of some.\u00a0 Like Davis, Rev. McCoy also highlighted the ways in which the\u00a0abortion industry has targeted black Americans. After graduating college in 2005, Christina spent a few years at the Justice House of Prayer in D.C and with the pro-life group Bound4Life. She then moved to the Atlanta to be on staff with the 24\/7 prayer ministry IHOP ATL. Christina is a wife and stepmom who currently works for a CareNet pregnancy center.
