{"id":9274,"date":"2011-12-30T16:06:07","date_gmt":"2011-12-30T21:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/?p=9274"},"modified":"2013-04-02T06:12:10","modified_gmt":"2013-04-02T10:12:10","slug":"numbers-show-increasing-abortions-to-reduce-multiple-births","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/numbers-show-increasing-abortions-to-reduce-multiple-births\/","title":{"rendered":"Numbers show increasing abortions to reduce multiple births"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>There\u2019s a new trend in the abortion industry.\u00a0 It\u2019s called \u201cselective reduction\u201d to take the sting away from what it really is.\u00a0 \u201cSelective reduction\u201d is the abortion of one or more babies in a multiple pregnancy.\u00a0 Basically, if a woman is pregnant with twins, triplets, or more\u2014usually through in vitro fertilization or another fertility treatment\u2014and she decides she only wants one or two babies, she aborts the rest.\u00a0 Can abortion get more horrifying?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-9278\" style=\"margin: 15px; border: 1px solid black;\" title=\"twins\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/twins.jpg\" width=\"186\" height=\"253\" \/>I\u2019ve read in some detail about this procedure.\u00a0 Often, the abortionist will simply kill the child or children who are in the best position to be killed.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 Life or death comes down to simple position in the womb.\u00a0 Whichever child the doctor can reach best and inject with poison in the heart will die.<\/p>\n<p>Or, many parents make the choice themselves.\u00a0 If they already have a daughter, then the newly conceived son will be the one to live and any other daughters will die.\u00a0 If one triplet has been diagnosed with Down\u2019s Syndrome, that one will be sentenced to an early death. \u00a0Are people even aware of how many mis-diagnoses there are of Down\u2019s Syndrome and other \u201cbirth defects\u201d?\u00a0 Increasing numbers of parents are targeting their own children for death simply because they deem them less than perfect.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"The Telegraph\" href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/health\/8981504\/Abortions-to-reduce-multiple-births-on-the-rise.html\">The Telegraph<\/a>, a British news agency, reports that there continues to be a substantial rise in the increase of abortions of multiples, as twins, triplets, and the like are often referred to.\u00a0 UK Department of Health figures demonstrate that the number has nearly doubled since 2006.\u00a0 In 2006, 59 women chose abortion in a multiple pregnancy.\u00a0 In 2011, the number has risen to 101. No one denies the extremely controversial nature of these abortions, specifically because many parents chose to create these children\u2014or at least accepted the possibility that multiples could be created\u2014through in vitro fertilization.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The UK\u2019s Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority has recently \u201ccampaigned to persuade parents and clinics to implant just one embryo at a time and set clinics a limit on the number of multiple pregnancies they could produce\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/health\/8981504\/Abortions-to-reduce-multiple-births-on-the-rise.html\" target=\"_blank\">according to the Telegraph<\/a>.\u00a0 It\u2019s clear that parents increasingly view children \u201cthey\u201d create through assisted reproduction as a consumer commodity, to be kept or discarded as they choose.\u00a0 The rise in multiple abortions is already heating up the debate on IVF and other assisted reproduction.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Peter Saunders, the chief executive of the Christian Medical Fellowship, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/health\/8981504\/Abortions-to-reduce-multiple-births-on-the-rise.html\" target=\"_blank\">told The Telegraph<\/a>:\u00a0 \u201cThere is no doubt that the rising use of IVF has contributed to a rise in multiple pregnancies.\u00a0 If prospective parents are not willing to have twins then they should not be implanting more than one embryo at a time. Parental preference should never take precedence over the right to life of the unborn child.\u201d\u00a0 He is absolutely correct.\u00a0 Why are parents choosing to forgo any \u201cinconvenience\u201d that twins might cause them and instead, abort a child they clearly chose to create?<\/p>\n<p>No one disputes the fact that twin and other multiple pregnancies pose higher risks to the mother and babies than a single pregnancy.\u00a0 (Although the risks of a twin or the mother having serious health issues have been incredibly reduced and are almost never life-threatening anymore.)\u00a0 However, the fact that a problem <em>may<\/em> present itself is not grounds to kill a child.\u00a0 Even the fact that a mother may be bedridden during pregnancy or suffer some health problems should not be a basis for abortion.\u00a0 I am a mother, and I am willing to suffer health risks for my children.\u00a0 It is very rare that multiple pregnancies truly risk the life of the mother.\u00a0 And honestly, if you don\u2019t want to worry if your triplets may be born premature and suffer a few health problems as a result, you shouldn\u2019t be implanting multiple embryos at once.\u00a0\u00a0Many people are starting to believe that if\u00a0you do, you should accept the risks that come with it.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, the real reason for these selective abortions is revealed in the numbers.\u00a0 A spokesman for the UK\u2019s Department of Health gave The Telegraph this eye-opening information:\u00a0 \u201cOver three quarters, 78 per cent, of the selective terminations were performed under ground E \u2013 that there is substantial risk that if the child were born it would suffer from such physical or mental abnormalities as to be seriously handicapped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Basically, if we don\u2019t want to care for more than one child at a time, if we don\u2019t want to risk our health a little bit for a child we chose to have, or if we don\u2019t want to care for a possibly handicapped child, we kill them.\u00a0 Apparently, killing children is the answer to just about every problem we have.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s a new trend in the abortion industry.\u00a0 It\u2019s called \u201cselective reduction\u201d to take the sting away from what it really is.\u00a0 \u201cSelective reduction\u201d is the abortion of one or more babies in a multiple pregnancy.\u00a0 Basically, if a woman is pregnant with twins, triplets, or more\u2014usually through in vitro fertilization or another fertility treatment\u2014and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":12855,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"om_disable_all_campaigns":false},"categories":[15],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.7 -
