{"id":92353,"date":"2016-04-13T12:40:14","date_gmt":"2016-04-13T16:40:14","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=92353"},"modified":"2016-04-13T12:40:14","modified_gmt":"2016-04-13T16:40:14","slug":"personhood-amendment-clears-missouri-house-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/personhood-amendment-clears-missouri-house-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Personhood amendment clears Missouri House committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>The Missouri House Committee on Children and Families <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/local\/news-columns-blogs\/the-buzz\/article71369937.html\">voted<\/a> 8-3 on Tuesday to approve a constitutional amendment recognizing the personhood of preborn babies in the state constitution.<\/p>\n<p>As previously <a href=\"\/news\/missouri-considers-personhood-amendment-to-state-constitution\/\">covered<\/a> by Live Action, <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/MO\/bill\/HJR98\/2016\">House Joint Resolution 98<\/a> would place the amendment before Missouri voters, for the purpose of ensuring the state has clear legal protection from conception onward in place,\u00a0should\u00a0<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>\u00a0be eventually overturned.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->That\u00a0would make Missouri the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/pdfs\/spibs\/spib_APAR.pdf\">sixteenth state<\/a> with some sort of pro-life legislation on the books preparing for a post-<em>Roe<\/em> status quo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/AbortionProcedures.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-88619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg\" alt=\"levatino-ad-LAN\" width=\"306\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN.jpg 306w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll life is life, regardless of how it was conceived,\u201d said Republican state Representative Rick Brattin in support of the resolution, which prior to the vote was amended to remove any exceptions under which abortion would still be permissible (however, this <a href=\"\/news\/scott-walker-informs-megyn-kelly-abortion-not-necessary-to-save-mothers-life\/\">would not prohibit<\/a> life-saving treatment for mothers that indirectly results in a preborn baby&#8217;s death).<\/p>\n<p>This being said, the resolution is not expected to pass the legislature this session, which is slated to end in a few weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Missouri House Committee on Children and Families voted 8-3 on Tuesday to approve a constitutional amendment recognizing the personhood of preborn babies in the state constitution.
