On Thursday<\/a>, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette filed<\/a> a complaint against the Summit Women\u2019s Center abortion facility in Detroit for for allegedly falsifying to the state its qualifications to legally operate.<\/p>\n

In 2013, Summit told state officials it met the requirement that abortion facilities performing abortions through the second trimester be owned by licensed medical professionals by claiming Dr. Alex Pickens, Jr. was the owner.<\/p>\n

However, suspicions were raised two years later when new filings listed David Lipton as the owner, falsely<\/a> claiming he was a licensed physician, and when Pickens did not claim ownership of Summit when he filed for bankruptcy.<\/p>\n

All of this, Schuette contends in the legal complaint filed Thursday, “suggests that Alex Pickens, Jr., MD may never have been the true owner of Summit P.C. and that Summit P.C. was organized through fraud and repeatedly and willfully exceeded its authority.” He intends to pursue fines of \u201cup to $10,000 each for misuse of their corporate rights, privileges, and franchises” for Lipton and other officials implicated in the scam.<\/p>\n

Pro-life activists Lynn Mills and Monica Miller were instrumental in discovering the discrepancies and bringing them to the state’s attention. “This shows the importance of keeping tabs on abortion facilities and then the importance of following through with government agencies that have the power to do something,” Miller said. “It took a lot of phone calls \u2013 but our pro-life attorney general Bill Schuette came through!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
