Rockefeller Sr. and his son, John D. Rockefeller Jr., <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rockefellerfoundation.org\/who-we-are\/our-history\/1913-1919\" target=\"_blank\">founded the Rockefeller Foundation<\/a> in 1913.\u00a0 Margaret Sanger <a href=\"http:\/\/www.enotes.com\/topic\/American_Birth_Control_League\" target=\"_blank\">founded<\/a>\u00a0the American Birth Control League in 1921 which became known as Planned Parenthood in 1942.\u00a0 She opened her first clinic, the Clinical Research Bureau, in 1923.\u00a0 The clinic was funded by the John D. Rockefeller family, and Sanger continued to receive funding from the Rockefellers for decades, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/jenniestone#!\/photo.php?fbid=10150429824016226&amp;set=o.49651563727&amp;type=1&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\">did so anonymously<\/a> because supporting Sanger\u2019s birth control mission was \u201ctoo controversial for [Rockefeller Jr.] to associate himself with [it] publicly.\u201d (<em>The Rockefeller Century: Three Generations of America&#8217;s Greatest Family<\/em>.
