Jeremy Irons is not exactly known for playing it safe when it comes to expressing his opinions. The British actor, who plays Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred in the\u00a0blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/em>, which opened in theaters Friday, has angered mainstream\u00a0media with his outspoken views more than once. And it seems he’s at it again.<\/p>\n

In an interview<\/a> on Thursday, Irons discussed his views on a host of issues including\u00a0marriage, interventionism, and abortion. After declaring that “our society is based on a Christian structure,” Irons moved to the topic of abortion…<\/p>\n

Take abortion. I believe women should be allowed to make the decision, but I also think the church is right to say it\u2019s a sin. Because sin is actions that harm us. Lying harms us. Abortion harms a woman \u2013 it\u2019s a tremendous mental attack, and physical, sometimes. But we seem to get that muddled.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Despite the inevitable outrage from pro-choice activists, Irons is on to something. Abortion has proven time and time again to create problems –\u00a0sometimes harming women<\/a> in the process – rather than simply solving the “problem” of an unwanted pregnancy.<\/p>\n

Irons\u00a0quickly wrapped up\u00a0his brief discourse on abortion: “In a way, thank God the Catholic church does say we won\u2019t allow [abortion], because otherwise nobody\u2019s saying that it\u2019s a sin.” He then proceeded to discuss antiques and his favorite statue of a buddha.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
