Scott Walker needs. But that hasn\u2019t stopped him from <a href=\"..\/planned-parenthoods-lesson-in-money-loss\/\">excluding Planned Parenthood from state funds<\/a> to organizations that help needy women get cancer screenings.<\/p>\n<p>Like we\u2019ve seen <a href=\"..\/rep-pitts-debunks-naral\/\">so<\/a> <a href=\"..\/pro-abort-site-jezebel-america-without-abortion-would-be-an-absolute-horror-show\/\">often<\/a> <a href=\"..\/pelosi-aborts-rational-dialogue\/\">before<\/a>, abortion allies are responding with venom. For instance, behold <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/rickungar\/2011\/12\/17\/scott-walker-kills-womens-cancer-screening-program-for-political-gain\/\"><em>Forbes&#8217;<\/em> Rick Ungar<\/a>, who predicts Walker\u2019s decision will kill people:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>If you are a woman fortunate enough to live in a county where the screening is available by any entity that is <\/em><em>not<\/em><em> Planned Parenthood, these tests will continue to be available to you.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>However, if you are a Wisconsin woman with insufficient funds or insurance to pay for cancer and multiple sclerosis screening and live in Winnebago, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/places\/wi\/fond-du-lac\/\">Fond du Lac<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/places\/wi\/sheboygan\/\">Sheboygan<\/a>, or Outagamie County, I\u2019m afraid you now have a problem. Planned Parenthood is the only organization providing the screening program in these areas and each of the local offices has been notified that their contract with the state to provide such screening will terminate at the end of this year.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the state Department of Health Services, Ungar has his facts wrong, and the program <em>will<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dhs.wisconsin.gov\/News\/PressReleases\/2011\/121511.htm\">continue to assist<\/a> cancer screenings in those four counties\u2014just not through Planned Parenthood. The money will simply go to the counties\u2019 health departments. But facts don\u2019t matter when there\u2019s a pro-lifer to hate:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>As for the children who will lose a mother, they\u2019ll just have to understand that it was far more important that Scott Walker burnish his anti-Planned Parenthood credentials than allow these kids to grow up with their mom [\u2026] it would appear that Scott Walker has not finished with the organization and will continue to take the lives of those already walking the planet under the pretense of saving unborn lives\u2014and all because it makes for good politics with his base.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s bad enough that so many in society confuse government <em>subsidizing<\/em> a service with basic <em>access<\/em> to that service, but now we see the goalpost being moved even further: even if you subsidize a service, you apparently must include <em>every<\/em> organization which offers that service; otherwise, <em>you are killing whoever doesn\u2019t get that service<\/em>. Judging whether a particular group would be the most effective or trustworthy steward of the people\u2019s money is apparently verboten. (I wonder if that standard applies to <em>any<\/em> group that decides to offer free medical services. If, say, the Ku Klux Klan did breast cancer screenings in a rural area, would Mr. Ungar let us turn them away?)<\/p>\n<p>If I were defending subsidies for an organization whose very purpose was killing (in a procedure that, by the way, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wnd.com\/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=121749\">has been linked to breast cancer<\/a>), I\u2019d personally be a bit more hesitant to cast stones at the danger of opponents\u2019 positions. But in the case of abortion funding, the hyperbole is a strategic necessity. They can\u2019t admit that there\u2019s a respectable reason for not wanting one\u2019s tax dollars to go to abortion clinics, because if they let people stop to consider what that reason is, then the game is all but lost. Their critics\u2019 rationale and results <em>must<\/em> be senseless death or suffering, because nothing less can counterbalance the immorality of what they\u2019re defending.<\/p>\n<p>The key to dealing with the Rick Ungars of the world is simple: as long as you recognize the falsehood and insincerity of the attacks, there\u2019s no need to feel shamed or intimidated by them.
