The Florida Senate approved a measure Wednesday that would regulate the abortion industry and prohibit public funding to abortion giant Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

The bill, which now heads to the desk of Gov. Rick Scott, would require abortion facilities to have admitting privileges or a patient transfer agreement with a local hospital.<\/p>\n

House Bill 1411, which passed the state Senate\u00a025-15 on party lines, restricts state funding to\u00a0Planned Parenthood affiliates, but shifts money to comprehensive health care clinics.<\/p>\n

The abortion industry in Florida receives an\u00a0estimated $200,000 in Medicaid dollars\u00a0every year, and\u00a0under the measure, government agencies would be prohibited from funneling\u00a0public money to abortion centers.<\/p>\n

\"DefundAd-400b\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea that those taxpayer dollars would go to an organization that performs abortions is simply intolerable,\u201d Sen. Rob Bradley said.<\/p>\n

Sen. Aaron Bean also urged state lawmakers to pass legislation that would stop the flow of cash to Big Abortion, urging them to get Florida “out of the abortion business.”<\/p>\n

\u201cWe pay their light bill, we pay their salaries, we pay all kinds of things when the state contracts with these clinics,\u201d Bean\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

The bill, which\u00a0requires abortion facilities in the state to adhere to basic health and safety standards, mirrors legislation in Texas regulating the abortion industry.<\/p>\n

Gov. Scott has declined to say if he will sign the measure into law.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
