{"id":8941,"date":"2011-12-20T01:59:29","date_gmt":"2011-12-20T06:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/?p=8941"},"modified":"2013-04-02T18:00:27","modified_gmt":"2013-04-02T22:00:27","slug":"terms-of-life-and-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/terms-of-life-and-death\/","title":{"rendered":"Terms of life and death"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-4708 aligncenter\" title=\"pile-of-words\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/pile-of-words.jpg\" width=\"280\" height=\"210\" \/><br \/>\nTerms; the words we choose; the definitions we use\u2014they matter!\u00a0 Within the context of the pro-life issue, so many terms are used incorrectly.\u00a0 In fact, the pro-abortion side has purposefully changed terms to make their atrocities more palatable to the average person.<\/p>\n<p>Take, for example, the term \u201cconception\u201d.\u00a0 Years ago, this term medically included the moment of fertilization\u2026the very second when a new human life begins.\u00a0 However, in 1959, an American doctor named Bent Boving started pushing the idea that this term should instead be associated with implantation (which usually occurs 6-12 days after fertilization).\u00a0 He wrote \u201cImplantation Mechanisms\u201d and stated that \u201cthe social advantage of being considered to prevent conception rather than to destroy an established pregnancy could depend on something so simple as a prudent habit of speech.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Clearly, Dr. Boving wanted to allow certain birth control methods to be marketed to the public as merely \u201cpreventing conception\u201d, when in reality, they can end the life of an unborn baby.\u00a0 Dr. Boving and people like him intentionally change the definition of terms so that the truth is hidden from the unsuspecting public.<\/p>\n<p>Six years later, in 1965, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology decided to use Dr. Boving\u2019s inaccurate and deceptive definition of conception.\u00a0 This is why some birth control methods today claim to not end a pregnancy even though they actually <em>do<\/em> end the life of an unborn child after fertilization.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s another term, relating to the end of life instead of the beginning:\u00a0 \u201cfutile care.\u201d\u00a0 The recent supplement put out by the Human Life Alliance, entitled \u201cImposed Death\u201d brought out the controversy surrounding this term.\u00a0 In the past, \u201cfutile care\u201d was defined as care or treatment that would not benefit a patient.\u00a0 Of course, if a patient receives no help, benefit, or healing from a treatment, it is futile\u2014pointless and unnecessary.\u00a0 This is the public understanding of this term.<\/p>\n<p>Now, however, a new understanding of \u201cfutile care\u201d is being adopted.\u00a0 HLA reports, \u201c\u2026a physician is entitled to refuse to provide treatment based on his\/her opinion that the quality of a patient\u2019s life is too low or the cost is too high to warrant continued treatment.\u00a0 In other words, the treatment is deemed \u2018futile\u2019 not because it doesn\u2019t work, but precisely because it does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is terribly frightening for our society and for the world at large.\u00a0 Who is one physician\u2014or any one person\u2014to determine that another human life is too low in quality?\u00a0 Who is one person to decide that you are not worth the cost to keep you alive?\u00a0 This new definition of \u201cfutile care\u201d is enabling doctors to determine that you are of no benefit to society alive; that you deserve to die; that your life is absolutely pointless; that the \u201ccost-effectiveness\u201d has turned against you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConception\u201d and \u201cfutile care\u201d are only two of several terms that the anti-life agenda is changing to their advantage.\u00a0 Of course, the media, pharmaceutical companies, medical organizations, and others with power tend towards the immoral definitions of terms.\u00a0 What can we in the pro-life movement do?\u00a0 How can we stop our society from going down this dangerous path?<\/p>\n<p>We can speak up.\u00a0 We <em>do <\/em>have a voice.\u00a0 Anyone who tells us otherwise is dead wrong.\u00a0 Every voice makes a difference.\u00a0 Every voice can save a life. We should take opportunities\u2014and <em>make<\/em> opportunities\u2014to talk with our family and friends about what\u2019s really going on.\u00a0 We can tell the people that we know and care about what these terms really mean.\u00a0 We can give them ideas on how to protect themselves and others.<\/p>\n<p>We can also study these issues and tell the truth about what certain forms of birth control really do.\u00a0 Many unsuspecting women take the chance of ending their babies\u2019 lives because they don\u2019t know what their method of birth control is actually doing.\u00a0 We can write online articles, a blog, letters to the editor, emails to friends, speak in church, write for a magazine.<\/p>\n<p>If you look for ways to help and spread the truth, you will find them!\u00a0 Let\u2019s give life with the terms we use, and not death!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Terms; the words we choose; the definitions we use\u2014they matter!\u00a0 Within the context of the pro-life issue, so many terms are used incorrectly.\u00a0 In fact, the pro-abortion side has purposefully changed terms to make their atrocities more palatable to the average person.
