Larry Wilmore<\/a>, John Oliver<\/a>, and Trevor Noah<\/a> have been using their TV shows to follow the Jon Stewart model<\/a> of propaganda: feed the audience pro-abortion lies by coating them in a layer of arrogant certainty and sarcastic, condescending \u201chumor\u201d that creates a false impression of confidence in what they\u2019re saying.<\/p>\n

Now comes a new disciple, Samantha Bee, who on her TBS show Full Frontal<\/em> recently attempted to gin up some more hate against Texas\u2019s HB2 abortion regulation law (as if we didn\u2019t get quite<\/em> enough of that from the media already). And worse, it’s being hailed as substantive analysis by the likes of the Huffington Post<\/a>, Jezebel<\/a>, and the Dallas Morning News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

First, while discussing the upcoming Supreme Court case over the law<\/a>, Bee warns, \u201cdon\u2019t schedule your cervical cancer yet, Texas!\u201d and quips that \u201cPretending the Supreme Court never ruled on abortion has been Texas\u2019s attitude ever since Roe v. Wade<\/em>!\u201d<\/p>\n

Actually, Texas, you can relax. Real women’s health clinics<\/a> outnumber Planned Parenthoods in Texas almost twenty times over anyway, and PP\u2019s nationwide pap tests<\/a> amount to a whopping 378,692 a year\u2014or 0.6% of America\u2019s 61 million women.<\/p>\n

\"Pregnancy<\/a><\/p>\n

And while expecting the world to uncritically kneel before Roe<\/em> might be a good applause line for an abortion rally, if we\u2019re going for logic here HB2 is actually, as the Fifth Circuit ruled<\/a>, consistent with Roe\u2019s admission that states have \u201ca legitimate interest in seeing to it that abortion, like any other medical procedure, is performed under circumstances that insure maximum safety for the patient.\u201d<\/p>\n

The meat of the segment comes from an interview with State Representative Dan Flynn, one of HB2\u2019s authors. Bee\u2019s introduction sneering that she had to talk to \u201cthis uterus expert\u201d confirmed that the exchange to come would be absolutely insufferable:<\/p>\n

\n

FLYNN: We\u2019re not removing access to healthcare. We\u2019re improving\u2014<\/p>\n

BEE: So the intention of the law was not to do away with abortions, it was just to make them impossible to acquire.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While abortion facilities have indeed closed<\/a> in Texas following HB2, Bee would do well to ponder why they\u2019re closing just as much<\/a> in blue states without laws like this.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

FLYNN: Any time you start cutting on women\u2019s bodies, you need to have it in the procedure where it can be healthy.<\/p>\n

BEE: Of course. You don\u2019t cut a woman in an abortion, though.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

At this point her desire to paint Flynn as an ignoramus kicks into overdrive: rather than play his full response, the audio cuts out and is replaced by Bee making a \u201cjoke\u201d\u2014if you can call it that\u2014about Game of Thrones<\/em> being the only place where abortions involve cutting, complete with a scene from the show of a pregnant woman getting stabbed in the belly. Too bad she didn\u2019t stop to think how labeling a gruesome double homicide \u201cabortion the old fashioned way\u201d undermines her position that the procedure is harmless and wholesome.<\/p>\n

A bit of failed humor and graphic depicting Flynn scrawling his name on HB2 in crayon (let\u2019s hear it for mature argumentation!) later, Bee turns to NARAL president and esteemed serial liar<\/a> Ilyse Hogue, who claims pro-life laws are forcing women to attempt dangerous self-abortions: \u201cWe\u2019re hearing from doctors that more women are asking them, you know, \u201ccan I throw myself down the stairs, can I drink bleach, can I douche with bleach?\u201d Armed with this talking point, Bee returns to the Flynn interview, where she asks, \u201cHave you thought about regulating the safety of back alleys? Because that\u2019s where a lot of women will be having their abortions now\u201d:<\/p>\n

\n

FLYNN: I just don\u2019t think it happens.<\/p>\n

BEE: It does, like in the tens of thousands of exceptions.<\/p>\n

FLYNN: I don\u2019t believe that. Where do you get those numbers?<\/p>\n

BEE: Reality.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And what constitutes a source rock-solid enough to justify this juvenile rejoinder of \u201creality\u201d?<\/p>\n

\u2026the Texas Policy Evaluation Project study Live Action News<\/a> and others<\/a> debunked in November that didn\u2019t even ask when, where, or why the self-abortions were supposedly attempted or compare their \u201cfindings\u201d with a control group, and which was funded<\/a> by the pro-abortion Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation.<\/p>\n

To be fair, \u201creality\u201d does sound more impressive than \u201cone discredited partisan study.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a mind-numbingly insipid skit with Hogue, Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White, and a shark Supreme Court justice (that\u2019s what happened, I swear), the segment ends as follows:<\/p>\n

\n

BEE: I speak with the authority of one who has a uterus. And I guess that\u2019s why I think that you\u2019re the wrongiest, wrong-headedest wrong person.<\/p>\n

FLYNN: Well, I can tell you some things about a man that you wouldn\u2019t understand. I could do a better job of educating you.<\/p>\n

[Audience laughter]<\/p>\n

BEE: That\u2019s an awesome pep talk.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What a beautiful illustration of how little sense or integrity backs the condescension here. Whatever you think of Flynn\u2019s answer (more on that in a bit), it is the exact same point<\/em> Bee just made! My biology gives me unique insight into gender-specific things<\/em>. It cannot logically have been both<\/em> a perfectly sensible thing for her to say and a misogynistic presumption worthy of laughter for Flynn.<\/p>\n

That said, it was the wrong answer. The correct response would have been:<\/p>\n

Funny, the \u201cauthority of one who has a uterus\u201d somehow didn\u2019t keep you from citing bogus statistics, failing to grasp that Roe<\/em> permits abortion industry regulation, mistaking the abortion industry for a vital source of cervical cancer care, missing the abundance of women\u2019s health alternatives in Texas, overlooking alternative reasons for abortion facility closings, or inadvertently illustrating that abortion is violent.
