{"id":88853,"date":"2016-02-26T16:50:16","date_gmt":"2016-02-26T21:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=88853"},"modified":"2016-02-26T17:13:38","modified_gmt":"2016-02-26T22:13:38","slug":"judges-lift-injunction-florida-abortion-waiting-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/judges-lift-injunction-florida-abortion-waiting-period\/","title":{"rendered":"Judges lift injunction on Florida abortion waiting period"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Florida will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news-gazette.com\/news\/nationworld\/2016-02-26\/floridas-24-hour-abortion-waiting-period-take-effect.html\">finally be able to enforce<\/a> a law requiring a 24-hour waiting period before abortions, following a decision Friday by the state&#8217;s First District Court of Appeals to lift an injunction against it.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union had filed to block the law on behalf of an abortion facility in Gainesville, FL, arguing that &#8220;law poses a real hardship to many Florida women.&#8221; The ACLU plans to appeal the case, arguing that a privacy clause in the state constitution grants abortion extra protection in the state.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->However, the First District three-judge panel ruling against the ACLU determined that the plaintiffs failed to prove either that their lawsuit was likely to succeed or that it would subject Florida women to &#8220;irreparable harm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abortionprocedures.com\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-88733\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN-1.jpg\" alt=\"levatino-ad-LAN\" width=\"600\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/levatino-ad-LAN-1-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The pregnancy health centers will tell you that waiting periods do help women confide in them and seek them and see what their options are,&#8221; Priests for Life executive director\u00a0Janet Morana said, hailing the news. &#8220;A waiting period is giving women more options and more choice, which is supposed to be what it&#8217;s about, isn&#8217;t it?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This law, which contains exceptions for rape, incest, domestic abuse, or human trafficking, is one of 27 states with abortion waiting periods is on the books.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Florida will finally be able to enforce a law requiring a 24-hour waiting period before abortions, following a decision Friday by the state&#8217;s First District Court of Appeals to lift an injunction against it.
