Former abortionist, Dr. Anthony Levatino, walks the viewer through the steps of a D and E abortion &#8212; which is also called a dismemberment abortion. Dr. Levatino personally\u00a0performed over 1,200 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abortionprocedures.com\">abortions<\/a>. Now, he&#8217;s publicly revealing what actually happens during a second trimester abortion procedure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jgw4X7Dw_3k\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The video has already been viewed over 4 million times (at the time of this article&#8217;s publication), with <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/viral-video-featuring-former-abortionist-is-changing-minds-about-abortion\/\">hearts and minds being changed<\/a>. Some, however, are throwing out common misconceptions on D and E abortion. Let&#8217;s discuss.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Misconception #1: D and E Abortions are Rare<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First of all, watch the video. Even if it were &#8220;rare&#8221; that babies were having their legs and arms torn off while they are still alive &#8211; or killed in any way &#8211; would that make it okay?<\/p>\n<p>But let&#8217;s discuss that supposed &#8220;rarity.&#8221; The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/preview\/mmwrhtml\/ss5407a1.htm\">Centers for Disease Control<\/a>\u00a0reports that &#8220;The percentage of abortions performed by curettage at <u>&gt;<\/u>13 weeks&#8217; gestation (D&amp;E) increased from 32% in 1974 (the first year for which these data were available) to 96% in 2002.&#8221; It is used this commonly, even though the World Health Organization\u00a0also reports women&#8217;s &#8220;cervical injury is more frequent with D&amp;E in the second trimester.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to the Guttmacher Institute &#8211; originally the research arm of Planned Parenthood &#8211; 9.8% of abortions in the U.S. are performed from 13-20 weeks. D&amp;E is <a href=\"http:\/\/apps.who.int\/rhl\/fertility\/abortion\/CD006714_chengl_com\/en\/\">the most common abortion method<\/a> employed in this time period, and Planned Parenthood widely advertises the procedure on its site, naming it when asked to explain in-clinic abortions. Additionally, some abortionists use this method at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emwwomens.com\/surgical.html\">12 weeks<\/a>. Over 25% of abortions are committed between 9-12 weeks of pregnancy. And, D&amp;Es are also committed up to 24 weeks. Abortions after 21 weeks make up approximately 1.2% of abortions.<\/p>\n<p>Putting all those numbers together, it is easy to see that D and E abortion makes up at least 10% of abortions in the United States every year. Since over 1 million abortions are committed in the U.S. annually, this means over 100,000 babies are subjected to brutal D&amp;E abortions every year.<\/p>\n<p>Every ten years, roughly 1 million babies suffer by being pulled apart limb by limb until their skulls are crushed, or until some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/supct\/html\/99-830.ZD2.html\">bleed to death<\/a> and die.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_170052\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/11-powerful-images-that-may-change-your-mind-about-abortion\/21-week-d-and-e-abortion\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-170052\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-170052\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-170052\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/21-week-D-and-E-abortion.jpg\" alt=\"Foot of a 21-week-old aborted baby, killed by D&amp;E abortion procedure.\" width=\"640\" height=\"424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/21-week-D-and-E-abortion.jpg 640w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/21-week-D-and-E-abortion-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/21-week-D-and-E-abortion-500x331.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/21-week-D-and-E-abortion-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-170052\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Foot of a 21-week-old aborted baby, killed by D&amp;E abortion procedure.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Misconception #2: Second Trimester Abortions Occur in Emergency Cases<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This statement has no basis in fact. First, the &#8220;emergency cases&#8221; people speak of &#8211; life of the mother &#8211; are quite rare. When they do happen, they commonly occur in the third trimester (long after <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-check-planned-parenthood-actually-does-perform-abortions-after-viability\/\">viability<\/a>, which occurs between 22 and 24 weeks). This is a point in time when babies can nearly always be delivered alive and put in the NICU instead of aborted and delivered dead. When late-term &#8220;emergency cases&#8221; occur, the baby must be delivered to save the mother&#8217;s life. The question is whether the baby should be delivered dead or alive; the answer is self-evident.<\/p>\n<p>Over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dublindeclaration.com\/\">1,000 medical experts confirm<\/a> that abortion is not medically necessary to save the life of the mother. Even\u00a0After performing 20,000 abortions, Don Sloan &#8211; who continued to perform them &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.secularprolife.org\/2013\/10\/late-term-abortion-to-save-mothers-life.html\">wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cIf a woman with a serious illness &#8211; heart disease, say, or diabetes &#8211; gets pregnant, the abortion procedure may be as dangerous for her as going through pregnancy \u2026 with diseases like lupus, multiple sclerosis, even breast cancer, the chance that pregnancy will make the disease worse is no greater that the chance that the disease will either stay the same or improve. And medical technology has advanced to a point where even women with diabetes and kidney disease can be seen through a pregnancy safely by a doctor who knows what he\u2019s doing. We\u2019ve come a long way since my mother\u2019s time\u2026.The idea of abortion to save the mothers\u2019 life is something that people cling to&#8230;but medically speaking, it probably doesn\u2019t exist. It\u2019s a real stretch of our thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr. Anthony Levatino explains in the video below why abortions are not medically necessary:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ysl1tRnk-ig\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Second trimester abortions are elective procedures. Despite Planned Parenthood&#8217;s denial, multiple Planned Parenthood\u00a0facilities\u00a0across the nation actively commit late-term abortions.\u00a0The abortion giant, which uses D and E for its second trimester abortion procedures, itself reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Thirty-six percent of women having abortions in the <span class=\"highlight selected\">second trimester <\/span>reported that they needed time to raise money to have the abortion. In addition, 18 percent of women having abortions in the second trimester reported that worries about the cost of the procedure caused them to take more time to make their decision.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s 54% of abortions in the second trimester right there. Babies in late term abortions are usually viable and could survive outside the womb if they were delivered alive.&#8221;Additional <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/the-reality-of-late-term-abortion-procedures\/\">survey studies<\/a> conclude that &#8220;late-term [after 20 weeks] abortion patients have confirmed that most late-term abortions are performed because of a delay in pregnancy diagnosis and for reasons similar to those given by first-trimester abortion patients:\u00a0 financial stressors, relationship problems, education concerns or parenting challenges.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A study published by the Guttmacher Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/the-reality-of-late-term-abortion-procedures\/\">recently admitted<\/a> that &#8220;data suggests that most women seeking later terminations are not doing so for reasons of fetal anomaly or life endangerment.&#8221; Of course, fetal abnormalities do not make abortion just or humane. A child with disabilities is not deserving of a purposeful, intentional death &#8211; whether it is done through ripping limbs apart, a shot of poison to the heart, or <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/news\/doctor-insists-parents-choose-starvation-and-slow-death-for-baby-born-with-cleft-lip\/\">starvation after birth<\/a>. Suffering and pain do not strip value or dignity from life, and a strong, healthy person should never be in the position to end the life of a weaker human being who has no say.<\/p>\n<p>A 2006 Guttmacher study analyzed\u00a0both first trimester and second trimester participants, and\u00a0discovered that\u00a0the following reasons were commonly given by\u00a0patients in the second trimester, versus their first trimester counterparts:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">68% had no pregnancy symptoms<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">58% Didn\u2019t confirm the pregnancy until the second trimester<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">45% had trouble finding abortion provider<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">37% unsure of date of last menstrual period<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">30% had difficulty deciding on abortion<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In this study, not one case of abortion for health reasons was documented. Read more about how second trimester and late-term abortions are almost always elective in the article, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/liveaction.org\/news\/why-do-women-get-late-term-abortions\/\">Why Do Women Get Late-Term Abortions?<\/a>&#8221; by Sarah Terzo<\/p>\n<p><strong>Misconception #3: Babies are not alive during D and E abortion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The video has been advised on and reviewed by medical professionals including practicing OB\/GYNs and former abortionists, which confirms the accuracy with\u00a0which the procedure was depicted.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Levatino\u00a0describes\u00a0that the preborn child is still alive and even explains that children at certain gestations feel the pain of the procedure.<\/p>\n<p>While some abortionists inject digoxin, which kills the preborn child prior to performing a D&amp;E, that is more common for third trimester abortions. A video with Dr. Levatino explaining the use of this method can be viewed below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r5Af8vIym2o\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/supct\/html\/05-380.ZO.html\">providers<\/a> &#8220;refrain from injecting chemical agents, believing it adds risk with little or no medical benefit.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/evidence-widespread-corruption-in-planned-parenthood-of-the-rocky-mountains\/\">Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains<\/a>, for example, one of the largest Planned Parenthood affiliates, <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-video-reveals-possibility-babies-born-alive-killed\/\">does not use digoxin<\/a> in second trimester abortions (and some of the babies are <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-rocky-mountains-babies-born-alive-killed\/\">born before the abortion is completed<\/a>). Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains also regularly commits D and E abortions.<\/p>\n<p>The National Abortion Federation (NAF) describes, in detail, how to perform a D&amp;E abortion. Their instructions include that ultrasound guidance be used &#8220;in cases that require a considerable degree of force to remove fetal parts.&#8221; And, their instructions are completely absent of any description of how to kill the child other than by &#8220;grasping a fetal part&#8221; and then to &#8220;withdraw the forceps,&#8221; fetal part attached. (See Cassing Hammond MD, and Stephen Chasen MD, \u201cDilation and Evacuation,\u201d <em>Management of Unintended and Abnormal Pregnancy<\/em>. Ed. Paul, Lichtenberg, Borgatta, Grimes, Stubblefield and Creinin. (Wiley-Blackwell, 2009), 157.)<\/p>\n<p>Warren Hern, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abort73.com\/abortion\/abortion_techniques\/\">who the NAF praises<\/a> as an &#8220;American innovator&#8221; in the D and E abortion procedure, similarly instructs that abortionists end the child&#8217;s life by pulling him or her to pieces.<\/p>\n<p>In his <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/leroy-carhart-de-abortion\/\">dissent in <em>Stenberg v. Carhart<\/em><\/a>, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote about what the Court had learned from extensive research and medical testimony. Kennedy particularly directly quoted Dr. Leroy Carhart, a notorious late-term abortionist:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The fetus, in many cases, dies just as a human adult or child would: It bleeds to death as it is torn from limb from limb. The fetus can be alive at the beginning of the dismemberment process and can survive for a time while its limbs are being torn off.<\/p>\n<p>Carhart agreed that \u201c[w]hen you pull out a piece of the fetus, let\u2019s say, an arm or a leg and remove that, at the time just prior to removal of the portion of the fetus, \u2026 the fetus [is] alive.\u201d Dr. Carhart has observed fetal heartbeat via ultrasound with \u201cextensive parts of the fetus removed,\u201d and testified that mere dismemberment of a limb does not always cause death because he knows of a physician who removed the arm of a fetus only to have the fetus go on to be born \u201cas a living child with one arm.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In February 2016, Live Action released an explosive, innovative new video demonstrating a D and E abortion through medical animation.
