When it comes to the death penalty,\u00a0Amnesty International doesn\u2019t mince words<\/a>: capital punishment is \u201cthe ultimate denial of human rights.\u201d Regardless of your crime, you shouldn\u2019t be executed for it. How about executing someone for her father\u2019s<\/i> crime? Oh yeah, Amnesty\u2019s fine with that<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Northern Ireland bans abortion in most circumstances, a fact Amnesty International wants to change. They\u2019re especially upset about how the law protects children conceived in rape, calling it \u201ca betrayal of women and girls<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not all women agree, of course. Northern Ireland\u2019s first female leader<\/a> doesn\u2019t. Neither does American activist Rebecca Kiessling<\/a>, which isn\u2019t surprising. After all, a similar law saved her life.<\/p>\n

Rebecca Kiessling\u2019s biological father was a rapist. While her mother wanted an abortion, it was illegal at the time. Rebecca was put up for adoption instead, going on to become an attorney and an adoptive mother herself. That the law protected her is something she’s grateful for. To Amnesty International, it was \u201cshameful.\u201d They aren\u2019t the only ones who think so.<\/p>\n

Rebecca is regularly told she should\u2019ve been aborted. Those feelings aren’t unusual; when Valerie Gatto<\/a> discussed being \u201ca child of <\/a>rape<\/a>,\u201d the former Miss Pennsylvania USA was dubbed \u201cthe spawn of a criminal<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rape survivor Jennifer Christie<\/a> has seen her son labeled as a \u201crapist\u2019s DNA deposit<\/a>\u201d and something \u201cfrom Satan<\/a>.\u201d She\u2019s been attacked as well, with online commenters calling her \u201cstupid<\/a>,\u201d \u201cbrain damaged<\/a>,\u201d \u201cf–ked in the head<\/a>\u201d and \u201can a–hole<\/a>\u201d for not killing him. One woman\u2019s email was particularly blunt: \u201cI want to hurt you.\u201d<\/p>\n

None of these people got to choose how they were conceived, so their response is a little puzzling; had circumstances been different, they’d be the ones receiving hate instead of hurling it. Unlike some of the folks Amnesty International tries to protect, \u201crape babies\u201d didn’t\u00a0decide to harm others. The organization definitely wants to harm them<\/em>, however.<\/p>\n

Amnesty claims that capital punishment violates \u201cthe right not to be tortured or subjected to cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.\u201d If you don\u2019t think an abortion does that, then listen to someone<\/a> who\u2019s performed over twelve hundred of them:<\/p>\n
