“I\u2019ve done this for 36 years. I thought I had seen everything.\u00a0I have no words to describe how I\u2019m feeling about this.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The delivery of a full-term newborn baby,\u00a0left\u00a0to die in a toilet at a California Subway restaurant<\/a>, has left citizens stunned – including a member of the police force with nearly four decades of experience.\u00a0The baby boy, who was still alive and crying, was born to a\u00a0local woman with a history of drug abuse.\u00a0As California has a “Safe Surrender” law\u00a0which allows mothers to relinquish\u00a0their babies\u00a0to\u00a0fire stations or hospitals, “no questions asked, within the first 72 hours of birth, so long as the child shows no signs of abuse,” this mother\u00a0clearly had several choices. She\u00a0chose to leave her child for dead and has now been arrested for abandonment.<\/p>\n

Many<\/a> other women<\/a> have also chosen<\/a> to leave<\/a> their babies for dead in toilets<\/a>. And while this is understandably horrifying for the witnesses,\u00a0what people like Officer Lopez and the West Covina community may not understand is that it isn’t as uncommon as it should be for babies to be\u00a0left for dead in toilets. In fact, this is\u00a0standard practice for some\u00a0late-term abortionists.<\/p>\n

Operation Rescue\u00a0states<\/a>\u00a0that “the toilet delivery method is used by a number of abortionists, including Florida abortionist\u00a0James Pendergraft<\/a>.” OR\u00a0describes the late-term abortion procedure this way:<\/p>\n

On the final day of the abortion, the woman is given the drug Oxytocin, which induces or augments contractions and the onset of labor. Women then are placed in a room where they endure the final stage of labor process. When it is determined that the labor has progressed to the point where the baby is about to be delivered, each woman is usually taken into a room with a toilet and told to lean on the nurse and push the baby into the toilet.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Indeed, it was abortionist Pendergraft’s EPOC abortion facility in Florida that was the site of a call placed by a frantic mother after her nearly\u00a023-week baby boy was delivered\u00a0into a toilet<\/a>\u00a0in 2005. Baby Rowan lived for 11 minutes – and the abortion facility staff kept his mother inside the\u00a0bathroom while they turned away the ambulance that the woman’s friend had called for\u00a0help.<\/p>\n

In Live Action’s InHuman investigation at\u00a0Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque, New Mexico, an investigator posing as a late-term abortion patient was instructed to<\/a> “sit on the toilet” if she should go into labor before returning to the abortion facility to complete her abortion. It is obvious from the conversation that sending abortion patients to hotels to labor during the process is common procedure, and that a contingency plan is in place in the event of an early delivery:<\/p>\n

An unnamed counselor at the facility advises Live Action\u2019s 27-week-pregnant investigator:<\/p>\n

If we can\u2019t catch it [delivery of the dead baby \u2013 the final stage of the abortion procedure] early enough,\u00a0which has happened<\/b>\u00a0\u2026 then you\u2019ll want to unlock the door to the hotel room, get your cell phone, and just sit on the toilet.\u00a0 You don\u2019t have to look at anything \u2026 you can stay on the phone with us until the doctor and nurse get there[.]<\/p>\n

Dr. Carmen Landau echoes this advice, telling the Live Action investigator to \u201csit on the toilet\u201d and \u201cunlock the hotel room.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cJust sit there,\u201d Landau says, \u201cand you would not move until we come and get you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
