{"id":87560,"date":"2016-02-12T11:48:01","date_gmt":"2016-02-12T16:48:01","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=87560"},"modified":"2016-02-12T13:03:05","modified_gmt":"2016-02-12T18:03:05","slug":"wisconsin-legislature-defunds-planned-parenthood-passes-8-million-in-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wisconsin-legislature-defunds-planned-parenthood-passes-8-million-in-cuts\/","title":{"rendered":"Wisconsin legislature defunds Planned Parenthood, passes $8 million in cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>On Thursday, the Wisconsin State Assembly voted to pass legislation to cut approximately $4.5 million in inflated reimbursement from Planned Parenthood in the state.<\/p>\n<p>AB 311 would reduce the funding by permitting the abortion giant to only bill Medicaid for drugs&#8217; actual acquisition costs and a dispensing fee.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The bill, which has also passed the State Senate, is expected to be signed into law by Governor Scott Walker, as it recently passed legislation redirecting $3.5 million in family planning funds away from Planned Parenthood toward women&#8217;s health providers not involved with abortion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-84611 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/NewDefundAd3.jpg\" alt=\"NewDefundAd3\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/NewDefundAd3.jpg 400w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/NewDefundAd3-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Supporters of the defunding measures argued that in addition to the impropriety of taxpayer dollars supporting abortion providers, subsidizing Planned Parenthood was unnecessary for women&#8217;s health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the admission of Planned Parenthood\u2019s President and CEO Teresa Huyck in her deposition for Planned Parenthood v. Van Hollen, in 2012 alone Planned Parenthood performed about 4,000 abortions, approximately 60% of all Wisconsin abortions in that year,&#8221;\u00a0Wisconsin Right to Life\u2019s Executive Director Heather Weininger explained, &#8220;and the &#8216;vast majority&#8217; of the services in the Appleton North and Milwaukee-Jackson centers are abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen\u2019s birth control? I\u2019m for women\u2019s birth control. I think probably most everybody else here is, too,\u201d Republican Senator Duey Stroebel added. \u201cI support women\u2019s health care. I think everybody else here does. What we don\u2019t support is a taxpayer subsidy for a private abortion provider.
