I found out."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/med.studentsforlife.org\/2016\/02\/09\/what-would-a-late-term-abortionist-say-to-med-students-i-found-out\/\">Students for Life<\/a>)\u00a0Last week, on February 3rd, Johns Hopkins University\u2019s Medical Students for Choice hosted\u00a0Dr. Leroy Carhart at an open invitation dinner event.\u00a0Dr. Carhart is one of only a handful of late-term abortionists in the country, who by his own admission has committed 80-100K abortions, and hasn\u2019t done a lecture in public for years.<\/p>\n<p>Around 6:45PM, a crowd of 50 or so gathered inside one of Armstrong Medical Education Building\u2019s lecture halls in preparation for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?time_continue=158&amp;v=2qoVApUaCM0\">Carhart\u2019s talk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As we all lined up to sign-in to the building\u2019s security desk, I realized Leroy himself was just one person behind me awaiting his turn.<\/p>\n<p>Chills.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The man who I\u2019ve only read about in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/another-carhart-botched-abortion-sends-patient-to-emergency-room\/\">press releases that covered his latest medical fiasco<\/a>, was now so close to me that I could determine which parts of his shirt needed to be tucked in a bit more.\u00a0 (The right side.)<\/p>\n<p>The evening ran a bit behind while we all waited for the Chinese food delivery to arrive, although I hardly had an appetite.\u00a0 My goal for the night was to fit in and glean as much information as I could. \u00a0This was a huge chance to honestly observe and learn the perspectives of late-term abortion supporters.\u00a0 Here were some of the highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carhart reflected on his past experience with Supreme Court cases and fighting against the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban, [in the first few\u00a0minutes] \u201cIn reality if you think about an abortion,\u00a0<strong>there isn\u2019t an abortion done that doesn\u2019t remove part of the fetus before it dies<\/strong>, and the rest of it afterwards. So it was really, could be interpreted as a total-abortion ban. Or definitely was interpreted as a second-trimester ban.\u00a0 Anything after 14 weeks.\u201d\u00a0Unless of course, you are Leroy Carhart, one of about four others in the entire country who makes a living ending the lives of babies as far along as 30+ weeks.\u00a0 Babies who can feel pain or be born and survive.\u00a0 \u00a0He prided himself of being among the few to perform \u201cfetal injections\u201d, thus euthanizing the baby from the inside as a loop hole to the Partial-Birth Ban.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>JHU student and Voice for Life member Katherine Hamlet asked Carhart his opinion on the upcoming Supreme Court case,\u00a0<em>Whole Women\u2019s Health vs. Cole<\/em>, which challenges many of the common sense requirements finally being placed on abortion facilities. Certainly someone like Leroy Carhart who has\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2013\/10\/16\/leroy-carhart-gets-away-with-murder-no-punishment-for-botched-33-week-abortion\/\">claimed the lives of young women through abortion<\/a>\u00a0would see the importance of running a clinic that is up to par, yes? \u00a0Not so much.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cAs far as like having hospital-type requirements for the clinic, which is what they want, ya know 250 square foot surgery rooms, 6ft aisles and 6ft hallways, and\u00a0<strong>it\u2019s just ludicrous. It\u2019s just not needed<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I often hear challenges from students such as, \u201cno one knows when life begins\u201d or \u201cit\u2019s not a baby\u201d, yet here they all sat in awe and wonder as Carhart spoke on and on\u2026 about\u00a0<strong><em>dead babies and the methods he uses to kill them.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>He described the importance of using the fetal injections because then \u201c[the babies] were not alive after the first visit.\u00a0<strong>They were dead<\/strong>\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>[Beginning of the tape] He explained the Supreme Court ruling that it was \u201cillegal to remove a fetus partly before\u00a0<strong>killing<\/strong>\u00a0the fetus, and then deliver the rest of the parts.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>About 15 minutes in, he explained how he knows a baby could never be born alive using his procedure of fetal injections because \u201cWe know the\u00a0<strong>baby\u00a0<\/strong>has been\u00a0<strong>dead<\/strong>\u00a0for multiple days.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carhart made a few confusing and contradictory statements concerning his role in the woman\u2019s\u00a0<em>choice\u00a0<\/em>to have an abortion. He made a statement that he performs abortions at such late stages of gestation based on \u201cextreme cases\u201d and not simply due to \u201cunplanned pregnancies\u201d. [About 12 minutes] \u201c<strong>Most of us are probably results of unplanned pregnancies<\/strong>\u00a0<em>(laughter from the audience). \u00a0<\/em>However there are pregnancies that are devastating to a woman\u2019s plans.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then he changes his tune and says, \u201cCertainly if it was an unplanned pregnancy and they come to the office I\u2019ll take care of them.\u00a0 I see my part as a provider to provide abortions to the people who have made up their mind that that\u2019s what they need.\u00a0 I will not help the patient to make that decision\u2026 I\u2019m not going to put myself in her head and say if it\u2019s a good idea or a bad idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then later when pressed on the issue he states, \u201cI have to be totally convinced that they know that this is not just the option that they need, but it\u2019s the only option that they need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A student continues to push, \u201cIs that just like a gut feeling?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carhart responds, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u00a0 I hope we\u2019ve made it a little more scientific than a gut feeling.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>I can tell you I\u2019ve rejected people who everybody else thought we should do.\u00a0 And, should I do that?\u00a0 I don\u2019t know.<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0 \u2014 wait, what??<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hang in there, we\u2019re almost to the end of the evening, and almost at the pinnacle of shocking statements. This next comment is brought to us by a student who asked, \u201cWhat is your advice for those wanting to become future abortion providers?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[About 17:20] \u201cWhen you\u2019re burned out of doing labor and delivery and OB and Gynecology and you\u2019re 55 or so, you might come back and work in the abortion field.\u201d \u00a0Did I just hear that correctly?\u00a0 When you\u2019re done bringing life into the world, switch it up and end some instead.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>[About 20:30] Student Question: \u201cI\u2019m wondering if your clinic provides any support, mental health support, for the women who come see you.\u201dCarhart: \u201cWe don\u2019t \u2013 but we have referral sources.\u201d Anyone shocked here?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Someone asked Carhart to explain some of the worst fetal abnormalities he has seen [around 40 minutes in]. He lists several but then defends aborting babies with Down Syndrome. He discusses how he hears from families who have a child with Downs who is doing great but says that you can\u2019t even know that in advance so aborting babies with Downs is fine to do.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As the evening came to a close, there was one last remark Carhart gave which made everything else seem like an episode of Sesame Street.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cI believe I\u2019m doing God\u2019s work.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is not in the recording as it was an impromptu response to a question asked in a small group setting later by Andrew Guernsey, a senior at Johns Hopkins and former president of Voice for Life.\u00a0 Guernsey asked if Carhart considered himself a Christian, and his response was\u00a0<em>yes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Carhart then shared with our small group that, to him, the Bible isn\u2019t clear on the issue of abortion.\u00a0 If Jesus didn\u2019t say anything against it exactly \u2013 then it\u2019s all good to him.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, he offered to all the students in the room to come visit his abortion facility and see for themselves exactly what happens inside.<\/p>\n<p>Ladies and Gentlemen, I\u2019m starting to feel a little ill \u2013 and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s the Chinese food.<\/p>\n<p>Carhart\u2019s entire discussion is available here:<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2qoVApUaCM0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The very NEXT day after this\u00a0talk, an ambulance was called to Carhart\u2019s late-term abortion facility in Maryland, for the second time this year.
