Hillary Clinton is not happy that Marco Rubio called her out<\/a> at this weekend\u2019s Republican primary debate by asking:<\/p>\n

\n

Here\u2019s what I find outrageous. There have been five Democratic debates. The media has not asked them a single question on abortion, and on abortion the democrats are extremists. Why doesn\u2019t the media ask Hillary Clinton why she believes that all abortion should be legal, even on the due date of that unborn child? Why don\u2019t they ask Hillary Clinton why she believes that partial birth abortion, which is a gruesome procedure that has been outlawed in this country, she thinks that\u2019s a fundamental right? They are the extremists when it comes to the issue of abortion and I can\u2019t wait to expose them in a general election.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Clinton responded<\/a> that Rubio\u2019s challenge was \u201cpretty pathetic\u201d…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

I’ve been on record for years about where I stand on making abortions safe and legal, the exceptions that are appropriate that should be looked into. And the very difficult choices that very few women have to confront that lead to excruciating kinds of decisions [\u2026] Reasonable kinds of restrictions can be imposed as long as the life and health of the mother are taken into account and that’s what the law is today.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She\u2019s not for completely<\/em> unlimited abortion, you see; \u201creasonable\u201d limits are just fine.<\/p>\n

That would seem to confirm she\u2019s the victim of Rubio’s exaggerating\u2026 unless you know what she means by \u201creasonable.\u201d Roe v. Wade<\/em> says that abortions in the last trimester can be banned, but only with an exception for the mother\u2019s health. Doe v. Bolton<\/em> defines<\/a> that health exception as follows:<\/p>\n

\n

[T]he medical judgment may be exercised in the light of all factors – physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman’s age – relevant to the wellbeing of the patient. All these factors may relate to health. This allows the attending physician the room he needs to make his best medical judgment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Supreme Court mandates a health exception, but no objective criteria for what would or wouldn\u2019t qualify. In other words, \u201chealth\u201d in the context of abortion law can mean anything an abortion-friendly doctor wants it to\u2026 right up to the baby\u2019s due date, just as Rubio said.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, Clinton\u2019s 100% pro-abortion voting record in the Senate<\/a> doesn\u2019t contain any votes for any of the reasonable abortion restrictions she\u2019s supposedly open to, including the 2003 partial-birth abortion ban<\/a>, despite the law\u2019s detailed explanation for why the procedure wasn\u2019t necessary for health reasons or its real<\/em> health exception, defined by \u201cnecess[ity] to save the life of a mother whose life is endangered by a physical disorder, physical illness, or physical injury, including a life-endangering physical condition.\u201d<\/p>\n

No, Clinton instead fretted<\/a> that under the ban, it would be impossible for government to \u201cmak[e] these decisions without infringing on fundamental rights<\/em>, without imposing onerous burdens on women and their families\u201d (emphasis added). When the Supreme Court upheld the ban in 2007, she condemned<\/a> the ruling and the ban as intrusions on a \u201ccomplex and highly personal\u201d decision that failed to respect \u201cthe rights and lives of women.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2005, Clinton said<\/a> not that the government\u2019s role in abortion should be limited to \u201creasonable kinds of restrictions,\u201d but that \u201cgovernment should have no role\u201d in it at all. Last summer, she said<\/a> it was \u201cdangerous,\u201d \u201cextreme and unacceptable\u201d to draw the line at killing five-month-old preborn babies.<\/p>\n

Hillary Clinton has never had to back up her go-to throwaway line for pretending she\u2019s mainstream, and every time she\u2019s had to choose between abortion and reasonable restrictions, she chose abortion. There is every reason to believe that Marco Rubio is correct about how she\u2019d decide when faced with allowing abortion literally on the due date, and no persuasive evidence to the contrary.<\/p>\n

That she\u2019s been able to coast so long on a just take my word for it<\/em> is further proof of Rubio\u2019s other critique: that the media\u2019s enabling of pro-abortion extremists is outrageous.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
