(Newsbusters<\/a>) Two days before Center for Medical Progress Project Lead David\u00a0Daleiden goes to court, his organization is condemning<\/a> Planned Parenthood for \u201caccounting gimmicks to hide its illegal sale of fetal tissue.”<\/p>\n

The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released a new undercover video<\/a> Tuesday featuring Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (PPGC) Director of Research Melissa Farrell. The footage taken\u00a0last April in Houston showed Farrell meeting with the Center for Medical Progress\u2019 David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt, who posed as prospective buyers of aborted baby parts.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Daleiden will present himself to the Harris County court in Houston, after a grand jury indictment on two charges<\/a>: Tampering with a Government Record and the Prohibition of the Purchase and Sale of Human Organs. The charges came after CMP publicized\u00a0several videos\u00a0(the majority of which were ignored by the major networks<\/a>) exposing Planned Parenthood’s harvesting of aborted baby parts.<\/p>\n

The seven-minute video recycled footage from part of a nearly six-hour-long video<\/a> released by CMP in August. CMP released Tuesday\u2019s video in conjunction with invoices from PPGC to the University of Texas Medical Branch for \u201caborted fetal specimens<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Together, the video and invoices, \u201cshow how Planned Parenthood used accounting gimmicks to hide its illegal sale of fetal tissue,\u201d according to a CMP press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the video, Farrell admitted \u201cwe get requests a lot for fetal tissue.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Daleiden asked if Farrell knew the \u201ccompensation\u201d PPGC received \u201cper-specimen\u201d from a company called Amphioxus (his wording<\/a> was not included in Tuesday\u2019s video), Farrell responded that she didn\u2019t because PPGC used \u201ctwo levels of invoicing for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first level was \u201cworded as \u2018per consent,\u2019 because the consent process was the administrative part that we had to do,\u201d Farrell said, referring to consent from pregnant women to use their aborted babies.<\/p>\n

The second level was an \u201coverall \u2018administrative fee\u2019 for basically working it into the clinics themselves,\u201d Farrell said.<\/p>\n

Looking at past invoices, Farrell confirmed that \u201cat the time, \u2018per consent\u2019 was $25.\u201d \u201cPer consent,\u201d she continued, included, \u201cif a patient consented to be in the study, and then, for whatever reason, we didn\u2019t get a sample, or she changed her mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Farrell \u201cdidn\u2019t do that budget\u201d herself, she said, because \u201cit was existed [sic] when I got here.\u201d<\/p>\n

PPGC now charges $150 per \u201cconsent obtained,\u201d according to financial documents CMP obtained<\/a> from a Texas Public Information Act request. During the same time period in 2010, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast charged the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) for 32 \u201cconsents obtained\u201d at $150 each as well as 25 \u201cconsent payments\u201d at $150 each.<\/p>\n

While Tuesday\u2019s video showed pictures of the UTMB invoices, Farrell appeared to refer<\/a> to Amphioxus which \u201cfinished up sample collection\u201d with PPGC in 2008. (In the longer video<\/a>, Farrell elaborated on how Amphioxus would send courier to pick up a \u201ccollection\u201d Monday through Friday.)<\/p>\n

\u201c[T]here\u2019s probably some situations that somebody would consent and then just not, we didn\u2019t get a sample, or she changed her mind or something happened to the specimen,\u201d Farrell reiterated. \u201cI can\u2019t think of anything off the top of my head, but, yeah, because we technically can\u2019t \u2013 ethically I don\u2019t think they were \u2013 based on what I\u2019m reading here, I think it\u2019s paying for the specimen itself<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

In other words, according to Farrell, the $25 fee for \u201cper consent\u201d went towards \u201cpaying for the specimen itself,\u201d even if a specimen was useless or if a woman backed out of donating. Or, PPGC received money for the specimen even if there was no specimen.<\/p>\n
