{"id":85252,"date":"2016-01-14T12:18:11","date_gmt":"2016-01-14T17:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=85252"},"modified":"2016-01-14T12:18:11","modified_gmt":"2016-01-14T17:18:11","slug":"veto-override-vote-defunding-planned-parenthood-set-january-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/veto-override-vote-defunding-planned-parenthood-set-january-26\/","title":{"rendered":"Veto override vote on defunding Planned Parenthood set for January 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Congressional Republican leaders have confirmed they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2016\/01\/08\/obama-vetoes-bill-to-de-fund-planned-parenthood-abortion-biz-caught-selling-aborted-baby-parts\/\">intend to hold<\/a> a vote to override President Barack Obama&#8217;s veto of the bill to defund Planned Parenthood on January 26, four days after the annual March for Life in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<p>The bill, which the House of Representative <a href=\"\/news\/breaking-congress-votes-defund-planned-parenthood\/\">passed<\/a> on January 6 by a 240 to 181 vote and the Senate in December by 52 to 47, would place a one-year moratorium on Planned Parenthood&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativereview.com\/commentary\/2015\/09\/a-comprehensive-guide-to-planned-parenthood-funding\">more than $500 million per year<\/a> in federal tax funding, as well as repeal many major components of Obamacare, which <a href=\"\/news\/3-ways-taxpayers-are-funding-planned-parenthood\/\">also helps<\/a> subsidize abortions.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Obama <a href=\"\/news\/breaking-president-obama-vetoes-legislation-defunding-planned-parenthood\/\">vetoed<\/a> the bill last week, in a move which March for Life president Jeanne Mancini <a href=\"http:\/\/marchforlife.org\/6169-2\/\">said<\/a> nevertheless served a useful purpose in making his support for abortion &#8220;loud and clear, perhaps more than ever before.&#8221; On Tuesday, Live Action News&#8217;s Rebecca Downs <a href=\"\/news\/despite-veto-congress-defunding-planned-parenthood-historic\/\">noted<\/a> that the veto does not change the &#8220;historic&#8221; nature of the vote as the first time the issue was sent to the President&#8217;s desk.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-life lawmakers are not expected to reach the 67 Senate votes and 290 House votes necessary to override Obama&#8217;s veto and make the bill law, but hold out hope that their efforts in this session will help lead to the bill being signed by a pro-life President in 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congressional Republican leaders have confirmed they intend to hold a vote to override President Barack Obama&#8217;s veto of the bill to defund Planned Parenthood on January 26, four days after the annual March for Life in Washington, DC.
