In\u00a0his\u00a0State of the State address Tuesday, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback announced Planned Parenthood will no longer receive\u00a0public funding through the state’s\u00a0Medicaid program.<\/p>\n

Addressing a joint session of the Legislature, Brownback encouraged lawmakers to make the\u00a0mandate state law.<\/p>\n

“The time has come to finish the job,” the governor\u00a0urged.<\/p>\n

Brownback has ordered the state’s\u00a0Department of Health and Environment to ensure “not a single dollar of taxpayer money goes to Planned Parenthood,”\u00a0making Kansas the\u00a0eighth state to defund the abortion giant.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must keep working to protect our most innocent Kansans, the unborn,” Brownback said.\u00a0“We have become the shining city on the hill and the champions of life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The move comes in the aftermath of undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress exposing Planned Parenthood’s baby parts harvesting trade. Brownback, a longtime advocate for the preborn, affirmed that Planned Parenthood should not receive taxpayer funding in light of its gruesome fetal parts harvesting\u00a0practices.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlanned Parenthood\u2019s trafficking of baby body parts is antithetical to our belief in human dignity,\u201d\u00a0Brownback\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

A handful of states have taken action to eliminate the group’s public subsidies\u00a0and to shift funding to comprehensive health care clinics.<\/p>\n

Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Legal Counsel Casey Mattox praised the governor’s decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot one more penny should go to Planned Parenthood, a scandal-plagued abortion business that does not provide comprehensive health care services for women,” Mattox wrote in a statement. “Gov. Brownback\u2019s directive will terminate funding for Planned Parenthood, freeing up money for more widely available and more comprehensive low-cost healthcare options<\/a> for women and families in Kansas.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2011, Brownback signed a law to block Planned Parenthood from receiving federal family planning money through the state’s health department.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
