The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerformedicalprogress.org\/cmp\/investigative-footage\/\">undercover videos<\/a> released by the Center for Medical Progress sparked renewed attention on\u00a0the abortion industry.<\/p>\n<p>The videos underscored how ambiguous the distinction often is between abortion and infanticide. For example, in one video, an employee of Planned Parenthood partner StemExpress\u00a0described taking a baby boy who was delivered in an abortion at a California Planned Parenthood, cutting open his\u00a0face with scissors while his\u00a0heart was still beating, and harvesting his\u00a0brain.<\/p>\n<p>These videos, however, did not prompt the Democratic Party to alter\u00a0its stance on abortion. Instead, the party solidified its commitment to the pro-choice cause. In the space of one week in September, the party demonstrated a near-unanimous opposition to restrictions on late-term abortions, including abortions involving\u00a0the death of the baby <em>after<\/em> delivery.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>September 16<\/strong>: The Obama administration released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/omb\/legislative\/sap\/114\/saphr3134-3504r_20150916.pdf\">a statement<\/a> promising to veto H.R. 3134 and H.R. 3504.<\/li>\n<li><strong>September 18<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/votes\/114-2015\/h506?utm_content=buffer13280&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\">177 Democrats<\/a> voted \u201cno\u201d on H.R. 3504 in the House of Representatives, while 5 voted \u201cyes.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>September 18<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/votes\/114-2015\/h505\">184 Democrats<\/a> voted \u201cno\u201d on H.R. 3134 in the House of Representatives, while 2 voted \u201cyes.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>September 22<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magnetmail.net\/Actions\/email_web_version.cfm?publish=newsletter&amp;user_id=NRLC&amp;message_id=11094849&amp;utm_content=bufferae746&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\">40 Democrats<\/a> voted against entertaining H.R. 36 in the Senate, while 3 voted to take up the bill for debate.\u00a0Previously on May 13, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/votes\/114-2015\/h223\">180 democrats<\/a> voted against the bill in the House of Representatives, while 4 supported it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/votes\/114-2015\/h506?utm_content=buffer13280&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\">H.R. 3504<\/a>, the <strong>Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act<\/strong>, stipulates that babies born alive during abortions must receive medical care.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/votes\/114-2015\/h505\">H.R. 3134<\/a>, the <strong>Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015<\/strong>, takes hundreds of millions of federal dollars currently given to Planned Parenthood each year and gives the money instead to services which provide health care for women.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/votes\/114-2015\/h223\">H.R. 36<\/a>, the <strong>Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act<\/strong>, would restrict abortions after the 22 week of pregnancy (20 week gestational age) and protect babies born alive during abortions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2015 was a landmark year in the national debate over abortion.
