Should Planned Parenthood be defunded? That is the question on everyone’s mind right now, as the Senate recently voted in the affirmative<\/a>. Pro-abortion activists were predictably outraged, and have quickly gone into recovery mode, insisting that Americans really, really want to continue funding Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

For example, Cosmopolitan magazine featured a poll this week that “proves” Americans support the taxpayer funding, saying that 58% of respondents don’t want it eliminated. The poll<\/a> merely asked if Planned Parenthood should be defunded:<\/p>\n

And Planned Parenthood itself was eager to tout those results:<\/p>\n

Now 14 polls confirm that Americans oppose “defunding” Planned Parenthood. But it’s politics as usual in Congress. https:\/\/t.co\/DsdIOkvkdV<\/a><\/p>\n

But not so fast, abortion advocates. It turns out that if you give Americans a different option, their opinion changes drastically. Robert Morris University also conducted a nationwide poll to find out if Americans want to defund Planned Parenthood — but unlike other polls, this one gave them the option of redirecting Planned Parenthood’s funding to other women’s health clinics. And, surprise! Most Americans are for it<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cCongressional Republicans favor shifting Planned Parenthood federal funds to community clinics that perform the same services, but do not perform abortions,\u201d the RMU question read. \u201cWould you say you support or oppose this plan?\u201d<\/p>\n

The poll found that \u201cA majority, 53.3 percent, strongly or somewhat supported the plan, while 31.5 percent were strongly or somewhat opposed.\u201d<\/p>\n

RMU Professor of Political Science Philip Harold commented on the different poll results.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the cardinal rules in polling is to clearly indicate the alternative in the question and a poll question that doesn\u2019t do this is flawed,\u201d he said in a press release. \u201cBecause the wording of this poll reflects the actual proposal, it is more accurate.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The poll even found that 42.7% of Democrats supported this plan, even though the question explicitly stated that this was a plan created by congressional Republicans.<\/p>\n

And of course, the national media didn’t report on this… even though they had these, the more accurate, results. Press releases were sent to national media outlets and were also posted on PR Newswire<\/a>. But instead, the less accurate poll results saying that Americans want to continue funding Planned Parenthood were the ones trumpeted by the media.<\/p>\n

Live Action has launched a petition<\/a> calling for an end to the\u00a0taxpayer funding of the abortion giant. Thus far, the petition has garnered over 430,000 signatures, and Live Action is pushing for half a million signees by the end of the year. The petition calls on lawmakers\u00a0to permanently stop the government subsidy for Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry.<\/p>\n

Not only would defunding Planned Parenthood give money to comprehensive health care clinics, which actually vastly outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics<\/a>, it would actually increase funding for these clinics<\/a>. The reality is that women, including low-income women and their families, have many options<\/a> for health care besides just Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n

And why should women have to go to Planned Parenthood anyway? It is an evil, untrustworthy organization<\/a> that women cannot rely on. Planned Parenthood lies to women, frequently breaks the law, and their real business is abortion, not health care\u00a0–\u00a0as evidenced by their own annual reports, which show that\u00a0health care at Planned Parenthood has plummeted<\/a> over the years, while the number of abortions performed have skyrocketed.<\/p>\n

And while Planned Parenthood likes to claim that they are vital, that huge numbers of women rely on them for health care, the reality is they serve a very small percentage of women<\/a>.<\/p>\n
