This is the lowest America&#8217;s abortion rate has been since CDC abortion tracking began in 1976, three years after the Supreme Court legalized elective abortion nationwide in Roe v. Wade.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>CDC statistician Sally Curtin noted that abortions have &#8220;been on a nearly steady decline since the rate peaked in 1980.&#8221; The agency&#8217;s latest report, which was co-authored by researcher Kathryn Kost with the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, attributes the decline to a variety of factors, including a corresponding all-time low in the pregnancy rate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-68636 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg\" alt=\"DefundAd-400b\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg 400w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kost cites increased birth-control use as a major factor, but Live Action News <a href=\"\/news\/debunking-the-atlantics-flawed-case-for-school-contraception-distribution\/\">has found in previous looks<\/a> at the research that contraception is a relatively small factor in abortion rates, with reduced teen sexual activity having a greater impact. Pro-life researcher Michael New also notes that more pregnant women are choosing to give birth, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/396946\/while-congressional-republicans-dawdle-pro-life-movement-winning-michael-j-new\">thanks in part<\/a> to hundreds of pro-life laws <a href=\"\/news\/nearly-50-pro-life-state-laws-passed-in-2015\/\">enacted over the past several years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Further complicating the picture is that five states, including the most populous and one of the most abortion-friendly, California, <a href=\"\/news\/declining-abortion-rate-multiple-explanations-missing-data\/\">do not report any abortion data<\/a> to the CDC.
