So it makes sense that Planned Parenthood keep its media friends happy. Cue the Maggie Awards.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Since 1978, Planned Parenthood has fostered an incestuous relationship with the media by rewarding the outlets and journalists it relies on to push its agenda. The Media Research Center compiled a list of media awarded by the abortion giant to hold them accountable to the public and <strong>demand that the recipients return their awards<\/strong> <strong>in the wake of the videos exposing Planned Parenthood\u2019s harvesting\u00a0of aborted baby parts<\/strong>. Those recipients include all three broadcast networks as well as outlets like<em> The Washington<\/em> Post and taxpayer-funded NPR.<\/p>\n<p>According to the abortion giant,\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/ppfa-maggie-awards-for-media-excellence\/\">Planned Parenthood Federation of America <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/ppfa-maggie-awards-for-media-excellence\/\">\u201c<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/ppfa-maggie-awards-for-media-excellence\/\">Maggie Awards for Media Excellence<\/a>\u201d\u00a0began in 1978 in honor of founder Margaret Sanger. The awards \u201crecognize exceptional contributions by the media and arts and entertainment industries that enhance the public\u2019s understanding of reproductive rights and health care issues, including contraception, sex education, teen pregnancy, abortion, and international family planning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-68636 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg\" alt=\"DefundAd-400b\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg 400w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to Planned Parenthood\u2019s own website, all three broadcast networks, ABC, NBC and CBS, boast such awards.<\/p>\n<p>The organization has bestowed 22 awards on NBC and NBC-TV, 19 awards on ABC and ABC-TV and two awards on CBS-TV. Some of those went to news shows, like NBC\u2019s <em>Today\u00a0<\/em>(1985) and ABC\u2019s <em>Good Morning America <\/em>(1988) and <em>World News Tonight<\/em> (1988, 1985).<\/p>\n<div id=\"stcpDiv\">\n<p>The awards are a smart investment, since the broadcast networks remain loyal to Planned Parenthood, from <a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/07\/21\/weak-coverage-networks-covered-komen-3x-more-abortion-videos\">rushing to defend<\/a> the abortion giant during the Susan G. Komen controversy in 2012 to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/10\/21\/members-congress-cite-mrc-slam-nets-practical-blackout-planned\">refusing to air<\/a> on their news shows the damning videos detailing its harvesting operations.<\/p>\n<p>Other multiple award-winners include <em>The Nation<\/em>, associated with seven awards, HBO with six awards and <em>The Washington Post<\/em> with five awards. first video on July 14, the broadcast networks have proven hesitant to publicize the story \u2013 and when they did, they\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/katie-yoder\/2015\/08\/06\/anchors-refuse-say-baby-planned-parenthood-reports\">refused<\/a>\u00a0to even utter the word \u201cbaby.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two months after the first video\u2019s release, MRC Culture<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/09\/14\/2-months-networks-aired-only-013-planned-parenthood-videos\">\u00a0found<\/a>\u00a0that ABC, NBC and CBS had aired a mere 0.13% of the CMP footage during their news shows \u2013 or 1 minute, 13 seconds of more than 16 hours.<\/p>\n<p>In early October, MRC Culture\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/10\/01\/networks-air-planned-parenthood-hearing-more-actual-videos\">discovered<\/a>\u00a0that the networks spent more time combined airing Cecile Richards\u2019 defense of Planned Parenthood\u00a0during a congressional hearing than showing the actual videos themselves.<\/p>\n<p>From the beginning, the liberal media raced to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/07\/18\/liberal-media-defend-planned-parenthood-censor-word-baby#.kinbas:UVgc\">defend<\/a>\u00a0Planned Parenthood. In the first 9 hours and 30 minutes of news shows broadcast after the story broke, ABC, NBC and CBS, spent only\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/katie-yoder\/2015\/07\/15\/censored-abc-cbs-ignore-horrific-planned-parenthood-video#.kinbas:i7Uo\">39 seconds<\/a>\u00a0on the first video. It took\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/curtis-houck\/2015\/07\/15\/shock-abc-cbs-cover-planned-parenthood-baby-parts-scandal-video-anti#.kinbas:z1mG\">more than 24 hours before all three covered the story<\/a>. In the week after the first video, the networks gave a mere 9 minutes and 11 seconds to the story (in contrast, the nets\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/07\/21\/weak-coverage-networks-covered-komen-3x-more-abortion-videos\">devoted more than three times that<\/a>\u00a0to the Susan G. Komen controversy, when the charity temporarily decided to defund the abortion giant).<\/p>\n<div id=\"stcpDiv\">\n<p>ABC, NBC and CBS prioritized animals over aborted babies,\u00a0by covering\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/07\/29\/nets-covered-cecil-lion-more-1-day-abortion-vids-2-weeks\">the shooting of Cecil the lion more in one day than they did these videos in two weeks<\/a>\u00a0and in their\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/09\/02\/networks-cover-baby-pandas-more-baby-humans-planned-parenthood\">reporting on birth of the National Zoo\u2019s panda cubs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Not only that, but also they refused to cover the tens of thousands of Americans\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/nb\/katie-yoder\/2015\/08\/25\/protestpp-networks-censor-tens-thousands-protesting-planned\">speaking out against Planned Parenthood<\/a>\u00a0during nationwide rallies held in late August \u2013 except as a side note when CBS\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/09\/11\/cbs-anchor-finally-reports-planned-parenthood-protests-%E2%80%93\">tried to connect<\/a>\u00a0the event to arson.<\/p>\n<p>Citing information from MRC studies, both Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and members of Congress led by Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) have\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/10\/21\/members-congress-cite-mrc-slam-nets-practical-blackout-planned\">slammed<\/a>\u00a0the media for their lack of coverage on the videos.<\/p>\n<p>The networks have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/culture\/katie-yoder\/2015\/10\/28\/networks-skip-over-last-seven-planned-parenthood-videos\">skipped<\/a> coverage of the last seven videos released.<\/p>\n<p>The media similarly stayed silent on the case of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell. Gosnell\u2019s trial, in which witnesses\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cnsnews.com\/news\/article\/gosnell-trial-witness-baby-abortion-survivor-was-swimming-toilet-trying-get-out\">described<\/a>\u00a0baby abortion survivors \u201cswimming\u201d in toilets \u201cto get out,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/katie-yoder\/2013\/04\/18\/still-only-12-15-reporters-gosnell-trial\">attracted<\/a>\u00a0a scant 12\u201315 reporters.
