{"id":80917,"date":"2015-11-25T16:06:41","date_gmt":"2015-11-25T21:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=80917"},"modified":"2015-11-25T14:30:43","modified_gmt":"2015-11-25T19:30:43","slug":"compassion-lecture-cecile-richards-turns-hypocrisy-art-form","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/compassion-lecture-cecile-richards-turns-hypocrisy-art-form\/","title":{"rendered":"A compassion lecture from Cecile Richards turns hypocrisy into an art form"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Cecile Richards is either the least self-aware person on the planet, or she\u2019s got a really sick sense of humor.\u00a0Those are the only possible explanations for the following <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CecileRichards\/status\/667738188710936576\">tweet<\/a> she made over the weekend:<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Reflecting on this week, it has been appalling to watch leaders of this country turn their backs on people in need of compassion and safety.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Cecile Richards (@CecileRichards) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CecileRichards\/status\/667738188710936576\">November 20, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>A lecture from the CEO <em>of Planned Parenthood<\/em>\u00a0on compassion and safety from those in need is really too much.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->To hear Richards tell it, restricting or regulating abortion and defunding her organization is \u201cturning our backs on\u201d America\u2019s women.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tell that <a href=\"\/news\/woman-abortion-teen-need-informed-consent-laws\/\">to Jodia Peters<\/a>, who had an abortion as a teenager and now supports the informed consent laws that Planned Parenthood fights against to warn other girls about the depression she endured afterward.<\/li>\n<li>Tell that <a href=\"\/news\/80750-2\/\">to the taxpayers of states where<\/a> Planned Parenthood has been caught overbilling Medicaid, essentially stealing money meant to help others in need due to illness and poverty.<\/li>\n<li>Tell that to those in need of the <a href=\"http:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2015\/09\/30\/at-planned-parenthood-abortion-is-up-health-care-is-down\/\">cancer screenings Planned Parenthood\u00a0is doing less and less of<\/a>, which could be more than replaced if the hundreds of millions of tax dollars they\u00a0receive each year instead went to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?set=a.895511370530165.1073741828.287722201309088&amp;type=3\">the real health centers that vastly outnumber Planned Parenthood centers<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Tell that <a href=\"\/news\/yes-defunding-planned-parenthood-will-affect-low-income-women-itll-help\/\">to the young girls brought to Planned Parenthood by their rapists<\/a>, whose abuse was prolonged and healing delayed because Planned Parenthood\u00a0chose to look the other way.<\/li>\n<li>Tell that <a href=\"\/news\/are-women-considering-abortion-informed-not-if-planned-parenthood-can-help-it\/\">to the women Planned Parenthood has\u00a0lied to about their pregnancies<\/a> and <a href=\"\/news\/katie-couric-helps-planned-parenthood-mislead-public\/\">denied the courtesy of seeing their babies on ultrasound<\/a>, all to make the\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/analysis-abortion-planned-parenthoods-clinic-revenue\/\">lucrative abortion business<\/a> look as appealing as possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So the people in need Richards was invoking are neither well cared for in Planned Parenthood\u2019s hands nor abandoned by the pro-lifers she denounces. But that hypocrisy pales in comparison to playing this card when you run an organization that exists for the express purpose of actually <em>exterminating<\/em>\u00a0\u201cpeople in need of compassion and safety.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>No, Ms. Richards, exterminating them before they\u2019re born doesn\u2019t mean they don\u2019t count. Most people instinctively understand, as Live Action\u2019s Susan Michelle <a href=\"\/news\/baby-ripped-womb-pregnant-woman-illustrates-reality-life\/\">said the other day<\/a>, we consistently call preborn babies \u201cbabies\u201d in every other context, and \u201cthe \u2018baby bump\u2019 holds an actual, living baby, one that can even be cut from the womb and survive\u201d\u2014so what entitles your business to a special exemption from what everybody knows deep down?<\/p>\n<p>Nor can you even claim those are the only babies you let suffer.
