{"id":80787,"date":"2015-11-23T16:04:32","date_gmt":"2015-11-23T21:04:32","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=80787"},"modified":"2016-01-29T14:41:34","modified_gmt":"2016-01-29T19:41:34","slug":"breaking-planned-parenthood-sues-texas-reinstate-medicaid-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/breaking-planned-parenthood-sues-texas-reinstate-medicaid-money\/","title":{"rendered":"Planned Parenthood sues Texas to reinstate Medicaid money"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/planned-parenthood-sues-texas\/article\/2576982\">announced<\/a> that her organization is filing a lawsuit against the state of Texas over its attempts to block Medicaid dollars from going to the abortion giant. &#8220;This is illegal and a violation of federal law,&#8221; Richards declared.<\/p>\n<p>As Live Action News has covered, Texas <a href=\"\/news\/texas-sends-investigators-into-planned-parenthood-clinics\/\">launched<\/a> an investigation into Planned Parenthood in October, motivated not only by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerformedicalprogress.org\/\">Center for Medical Progress<\/a> undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted babies&#8217; organs, but also by a history of Medicaid fraud allegations against the state PP affiliate, some of which forced the abortion giant to accept a $4.3 million lawsuit settlement in 2013.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->That month, Texas also <a href=\"\/news\/texas-terminates-funding-for-planned-parenthood-in-light-of-numerous-scandals\/\">terminated<\/a> Planned Parenthood&#8217;s Medicaid contract, declaring it was &#8220;no longer capable of performing medical services in a professionally competent, safe, legal and ethical manner.&#8221; In response, the Obama Administration accused Texas of violating federal Medicaid law by doing so, an allegation the pro-life law firm Alliance Defending Freedom <a href=\"\/news\/obama-hhs-may-sue-texas-for-defunding-planned-parenthood\/\">disputed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Planned Parenthood is suing to restore the funding, claiming that going to court is necessary to protect the health care access of its 13,500 patients in the state.
