{"id":79656,"date":"2015-11-11T06:25:39","date_gmt":"2015-11-11T11:25:39","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=79656"},"modified":"2015-11-11T14:59:36","modified_gmt":"2015-11-11T19:59:36","slug":"why-i-would-not-kill-baby-hitler","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/why-i-would-not-kill-baby-hitler\/","title":{"rendered":"Why killing baby Hitler is not the answer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>On October 23, New York Times Magazine posed\u00a0the following question to its audience on Twitter: &#8220;If you could go back and kill Hitler as a baby, would you do it?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The publication then urged users\u00a0to respond to the question, accompanying the tweet with an infographic showing\u00a0that 43 percent of its readers would kill baby Hitler, 30 percent would not, and\u00a028 percent were\u00a0unsure.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We asked <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYTmag\">@nytmag<\/a> readers: If you could go back and kill Hitler as a baby, would you do it? (What&#8217;s your response?) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/daatm12NZC\">pic.twitter.com\/daatm12NZC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NYT Magazine (@NYTmag) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYTmag\/status\/657618681204244480\">October 23, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" async=\"\" type=\"mce-no\/type\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>Republican presidential hopeful, Jeb Bush, gained media attention when he responded to the question with a resounding: &#8220;Hell yeah! I would.&#8221; Many, however, would agree with Bush,\u00a0who considers himself to be &#8220;the most pro-life governor in modern times.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The question poses\u00a0a moral dilemma, because our society is constantly seeking ways\u00a0to create a utopia free of the errors of the past and the tragedies of the future. Bush&#8217;s statement, however, shows that he fails to grasp the simple truth: killing is never the answer to solve a problem\u2014even in one of the darkest moments of\u00a0human events. The end never\u00a0justifies the means.<\/p>\n<p>Adolf Hitler saw the Jewish people as a\u00a0problem of humanity, and horrifically killed\u00a0over 6 million Jews during the Holocaust. Hitler&#8217;s anti-Semitic ideology, rooted in eugenics, wished to rid\u00a0the human race of individuals who, in his view, tainted it. Hitler wished to cleanse the human population and breed a pure race.<\/p>\n<p>Killing\u00a0baby Hitler may eradicate a problem of the past, but it will not solve the problems of the future. The\u00a0solution\u00a0for society&#8217;s ills\u00a0is not dependent upon\u00a0the destruction of certain individuals, but on the eradication of the ideologies that shatter peace. Until then, another Hitler-like figure would soon take his place, and another Holocaust perpetuated.<\/p>\n<p>The same argument, however, is used\u00a0in the abortion debate.\u00a0Planned Parenthood and its allies have\u00a0promoted &#8220;choice&#8221; and &#8220;reproductive justice&#8221; as a means of freedom, telling mothers that killing their children is the solution to their problems.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/7-shocking-quotes-by-planned-parenthoods-founder\/\">also a proponent of eugenics<\/a>, and believed in\u00a0weeding out the\u00a0\u201cfeeble-minded,\u201d \u201cidiots\u201d and \u201cmorons,&#8221; whom she deemed\u00a0unfit for the human race.<\/p>\n<p>Sanger&#8217;s dream, tragically, has been accomplished through abortion. Abortion is the leading cause of death for African Americans (whom Sanger disdained), the greatest destroyer of children diagnosed with Down syndrome in the womb, and the go-to &#8220;solution&#8221; for so many minority women.\u00a0Planned Parenthood has killed over\u00a07 million preborn children since abortions first began in 1970, and as a whole, America has lost over 57 million preborn children since<em> Roe v. Wade<\/em>.\u00a0Our history tells us abortion has not solved our problems.<\/p>\n<p>As seen throughout history\u2014undoubtedly\u00a0in Nazi Germany \u2014 human rights abuses perpetuate when certain people groups are devalued and dehumanized. This was Hitler&#8217;s Final Solution.<\/p>\n<p>A truly good society recognizes\u00a0the dignity of every person by teaching its citizens to love,\u00a0cherish, and protect the other. We\u00a0must realize that\u00a0we\u00a0are\u00a0deeply connected, and our humanity is inherent and shared.<\/p>\n<p>As Martin Luther King, Jr., so accurately\u00a0said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;If we are to have peace on earth&#8230; we must develop a world perspective&#8230;. Yes, as nations and individuals, we are interdependent&#8230;. It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network<span class=\"text_exposed_show\"> of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly&#8230;We aren\u2019t going to have peace on earth until we recognize this basic fact of the interrelated structure of all
