Here is a collection of quotes from abortionists (and one clinic worker) about how they know they are perceived by others. More can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/category\/quotes\/the-stigma-of-abortionist\/\" target=\"_blank\">here on ClinicQuotes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Dr. Don Sloan has been providing abortions for years, and has done over 20,000. He says the following in an essay defending legal abortion:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The term \u201cabortionist\u201d still carries with it a heavy weight. We\u2019ve made it [abortion] legal, but we haven\u2019t made it respectable \u2013 not quite. (1)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In his textbook <em>Abortion Practice<\/em>, which was written to train would-be abortionists, late term abortionist Dr. Warren Hern said \u00a0the following:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Abortion has been stigmatized in the medical profession. Until recently the public and large segments of the medical profession considered abortion to be an unethical medical act regardless of its legal status\u2026Communities do not like to be reminded that abortions are occurring within their boundaries\u2026Candor invites both criticism and harassment; very few abortion clinics or physicians providing abortion services include the word abortion in the title identifying the activity.(2)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Many abortion clinics, even today, are identified by euphemisms such \u201cWomen\u2019s Clinic,&#8221; \u201cSurgery Center\u201d or \u201cWomen\u2019s Hospital\u201d rather than \u201cAbortion Clinic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the magazine <em>Democrat and Chronicle<\/em>, abortionist Morris Wortman said:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Abortion has failed to escape its back alley associations\u2026 [It is the] dark side of medicine\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Even when abortion became legal, it was still considered dirty. (3)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joe Thompson, retired abortionist, was quoted saying:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">In obstetrics and gynecology, the term abortionist is still a dirty word. (4)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr. Susan Robinson, who performs late-term abortions:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If you do abortions, it is very hard to get the privilege to work in a hospital, because they don\u2019t like abortion providers\u2026.Being an abortion provider is very stigmatized. Other doctors look down on you and think of you as like the lowest of the low.\u2019 (5)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One doctor comments on the stigma of abortion among medical professionals:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I was thinking of doing a study last year. I wanted to look at different gestational ages and then compare them to outcomes among different types of abortion. But then I started to think, Well, gosh, wait a minute, I don\u2019t want to end up being known as the abortion person, do you know I mean? (6)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Former clinic worker \u201cMary\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/former-clinic-worker-describes-stigma\/\" target=\"_blank\">was quoted saying<\/a>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">After you work at Planned Parenthood, you\u2019re set apart.\u00a0It\u2019s a stigma. As a single parent it\u2019s lonely\u2026 people look at you differently.\u00a0The medical community does too.\u00a0Planned Parenthood makes you feel like you\u2019re stuck there because you\u2019ve been involved with abortion\u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An abortionist quoted in <em>Women &amp; Health<\/em> said:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Who would want my life? \u2026 It\u2019s low prestige, medically isolated\u2026 I have no doctor friends and have very little support from the medical community. (7)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Abortion doctor Tommy Tucker told the Atlanta Journal Constitution:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">We\u2019re perceived as being dirty, underhanded, the lowest echelon of the medical practice. (8)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr. Tucker was later punished by the medical board for botching abortions and causing the death of at least one woman. Read the heartbreaking first hand account of the woman\u2019s death from one of the clinic workers who tried in vain to save her after Tucker left the clinic\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/clinicquotes.com\/former-clinic-worker-joy-davis\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From abortionist Bob Phillips:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Well, you know, every now and then you get labeled an \u201cabortionist,\u201d which is a term I don\u2019t really enjoy\u2026 &#8220;Abortionist\u201d carries a still unpleasant connotation. It carries the connotation of a sleaze.
