{"id":79039,"date":"2015-11-05T13:06:05","date_gmt":"2015-11-05T18:06:05","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=79039"},"modified":"2015-11-06T12:26:20","modified_gmt":"2015-11-06T17:26:20","slug":"3-ways-taxpayers-are-funding-planned-parenthood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/3-ways-taxpayers-are-funding-planned-parenthood\/","title":{"rendered":"3 ways taxpayers are funding abortion at Planned Parenthood"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p class=\"p1\">It&#8217;s no secret that\u00a0taxpayers are footing the bill\u00a0for abortion giant Planned Parenthood, despite claims that taxpayer dollars are not being used to subsidize the group and its activities.\u00a0Here are three\u00a0ways Planned Parenthood\u00a0is benefiting\u00a0at the expense of the American taxpayer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>1.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>State\u00a0funding<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Currently, 17 states directly\u00a0fund elective abortions under Medicaid, the federal health care program for low income Americans.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/statecenter\/spibs\/spib_SFAM.pdf\">The Guttmacher Institute\u00a0reports<\/a> that Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia, use public funding to pay for\u00a0abortion\u00a0procedures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Medicaid-State-Funding.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-79254 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Medicaid-State-Funding.jpg\" alt=\"Medicaid-State-Funding\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Medicaid-State-Funding.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Medicaid-State-Funding-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Medicaid-State-Funding-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While the\u00a01976 Hyde Amendment prevents federal taxpayer dollars from funding abortions\u00a0through Medicaid\u2014with the exception of cases involving rape, incest, and life of the mother\u2014the program is jointly funded by both the federal and state governments. The 17 states listed above, however, have expanded the definition to include\u00a0most elective abortions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>2. Obamacare<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Despite broken promises by members of Congress and the President, Americans are subsidizing elective abortions and Planned Parenthood under the Affordable Care Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Government Accountability Office <a href=\"http:\/\/gao.gov\/products\/GAO-14-742R\">reported<\/a>\u00a0in September of 2014\u00a0that 1,036\u00a0health insurance exchange plans under Obamacare illegally cover elective abortions. The health care law mandates insurers offering coverage for elective abortions to collect a minimum surcharge of $12 a year from individuals, which is then placed into a separate account to pay for abortion procedures. This rule, however, is being ignored by insurers, according to the GAO.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-68636 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg\" alt=\"DefundAd-400b\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg 400w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Affordable Care Act\u00a0sends funding to health insurance plans that cover abortion, but also creates new paths of funding for abortion giant Planned Parenthood through its involvement in the assister and navigator programs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>3. Federal funding<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Forty-one\u00a0percent of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s annual revenue\u2014$528 million\u2014 came in the form of government grants and reimbursements, according to the group&#8217;s 2013-14\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/files\/6714\/1996\/2641\/2013-2014_Annual_Report_FINAL_WEB_VERSION.pdf\">annual report<\/a>. These streams of\u00a0funding for Planned Parenthood come through various programs including Medicaid and\u00a0Title X.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While Medicaid and Title X\u00a0are not directly paying for abortions at the federal level, these programs ensure that Planned Parenthood continues to receive over $500 million in taxpayer funding every year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As the nation&#8217;s largest abortion chain,\u00a0Planned Parenthood\u00a0commits over 320,000 abortions annually, and is the leading abortion advocacy group with tremendous political clout. Because money is\u00a0fungible, the taxpayer dollars\u00a0that Planned Parenthood brings in allows them to cover overhead for centers that perform abortions. The taxpayer funds free up Planned Parenthood to direct their donations to grow their abortion services, facility\u00a0reach, and abortion political advocacy. Additionally, once Planned Parenthood earns money for any service, it\u00a0can freely invest those earnings into abortion activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Despite\u00a0the ways\u00a0taxpayer dollars flow into the coffers of Big Abortion, Planned Parenthood and its allies <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-seeks-to-increase-taxpayer-funding-on-abortion-with-no-limits\/\">continue to fight for taxpayer funding <\/a>without restriction through the repeal of the Hyde Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0report from the Government Accountability Office showed that in\u00a0just three years, Planned Parenthood received\u00a0$1.5 billion in combined federal and state funding. Six abortion groups received $481 million in federal dollars\u00a0and $1.2 billion in state and federal funding from 2010-12, with Planned Parenthood receiving the largest share.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood&#8217;s long legacy of scandal \u2014<a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-admits-to-breaking-federal-law\/\">selling baby body parts<\/a>, covering up <a href=\"https:\/\/liveaction.org\/projects\/\">child sexual abuse<\/a>, aiding <a href=\"https:\/\/liveaction.org\/projects\/\">child sex-traffickers<\/a>, and displaying willingness to perform abortions based on <a href=\"https:\/\/liveaction.org\/projects\/\">race and sex<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uax-FrhOioY\" target=\"_blank\">supporting infanticide<\/a>\u2014 renders it unfit for taxpayer money.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s no secret that\u00a0taxpayers are footing the bill\u00a0for abortion giant
