But one of their recent pieces is raising eyebrows for calling a woman who drew pictures of genitalia and harassed children &#8220;brave&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hey I just single handedly broke up a planned parenthood protest by chanting the words &quot;yeast infections&quot; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SKvnIi30TB\">pic.twitter.com\/SKvnIi30TB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Mary Numair (@MaryNumair) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MaryNumair\/status\/658422128258125824\">October 25, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>A piece from October 26 hails,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/xx_factor\/2015\/10\/26\/yeast_infection_chant_breaks_up_planned_parenthood_protest_in_portland.html\">&#8220;Brave Portland Woman Breaks Up Planned Parenthood Protest By\u00a0Chanting &#8216;Yeast Infections!'&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0Marie Claire and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cosmopolitan.com\/lifestyle\/a48297\/mary-numair-planned-parenthood-yeast-infections\/\">Cosmopolitan&#8217;s<\/a>\u00a0headlines\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marieclaire.com\/politics\/news\/a16597\/mary-numair-planned-parenthood-yeast-infections\/\">call\u00a0the\u00a0woman &#8220;heroic.&#8221;<\/a> <em>Heroic?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>29-year-old Mary Numair made a sign to counteract the peaceful and prayerful pro-life presence outside and nearby a Portland Planned Parenthood.\u00a0As Slate describes it:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The sign, which Numair crafted out of masking tape and a piece of cardboard from the dumpster, praised Planned Parenthood for treating her chronic yeast infections when she was in her early 20s and uninsured. It also included a delightful cartoon of a vagina with a smiling clitoris and a stick figure with pigtails and prominent breasts&#8230;.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The piece mentions that Numair&#8217;s yeast infection is &#8220;deeply personal,&#8221; but that didn&#8217;t stop her from sharing it with Slate (and thus all of Slate&#8217;s readers) and with all who saw her sign. She even asked the child of a Planned Parenthood protester, &#8220;Do you know about yeast infections?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It seems unsettling that Numair would approach a child in such a way. She is a supporter of Planned Parenthood, though, which seeks to &#8216;educate&#8217; young children. I&#8217;m sorry, I mean <em>indoctrinate<\/em> them.<\/p>\n<p>As a woman, I can tell you that we don&#8217;t need Planned Parenthood for yeast infections.\u00a0Over the counter medications almost always work, but if they don&#8217;t, any physician (as well as some other medical professionals) can prescribe an anti-fungal medication. There are <a href=\"\/news\/if-planned-parenthood-loses-funding-heres-a-map-of-health-clinics-that-could-take-its-place\/\">many other places to go<\/a>, even if you don&#8217;t have insurance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/liveaction.org\/petition\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68636\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg\" alt=\"DefundAd-400b\" width=\"400\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b.jpg 400w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DefundAd-400b-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Numair and Slate certainly take a mocking tone towards those who exercise their First Amendment rights to protest the nation&#8217;s largest abortion provider. And yet, those who go for the shock and vulgarity factor, as Numair does, are being hailed and praised as &#8220;brave.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To borrow a term used in the article, the closing is quite &#8220;delightful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Though her yeast-infection story is deeply personal, Numair thinks her strategy\u2014chanting reproductive-health terms that embarrass anti-choice protestors\u2014is replicable for other counter-protesters around the country. \u201cI did look at the preacher-pastor guy and said, \u2018See you next time!\u2019 and I intend on sticking to that,\u201d she said. She plans on making a bigger sign, too, and perhaps a few props. \u201cIf someone wants to help me make a giant wooden labia, that would be great.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As offensive as it may be to display a &#8220;giant wooden labia,&#8221; just for the sake of\u00a0shocking a &#8220;preacher-pastor guy,&#8221; good luck to Numair if she thinks she&#8217;s going to so easily discourage\u00a0him and others committed to standing up for\u00a0preborn children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s no surprise that the pro-abortion magazine Slate would be supportive of pro-abortion people.
